Moms...

So i guess my mom had heard me talking about anemones and my fascination with them. I was planning on adding a bubble anemone maybe in another 3 months since my tank is only 3 months old! Ya you already know where this thread is going dont ya :)! So my mom anyhow came over to my apartment with a LTA or as she says the ones the nemos swim in.... I was thinking to myself great i definitely dont have the knowledge to keep this anemone and especially an anemone that is already sick! So anyhow my new LTA is in my tank and not doing good at all. When i first introduced him after acclimating he would not take foot anywhere! So i dug a hole for him and placed him in the sand. Woke up this morning and he was flipped over in the sand. Also some of his insides even seem to be coming out :S. Hes not dead yet tho...
For any who care my ph is about 8.2 0 ammonia and 0 nitrates. I keep the temp around 79-80. Also i have about 5 watts a gallon in my 55 gallon tank with a MH and t5s.So what should i do to help my new friend out!? Or is he even savable? Also ill add pix in the next hour! Thanks in advance

Edit also tried to target feed mysis shrimp the lta didnt even seem to realize they were there.

Well seems to be he magically flipped over again somehow out of his hole and looks lifeless. Pix are coming but need some help quickly!

do you have a more up close picture of the 'nem? your tank seems young, but assuming the LTA was healthy to begin with, there's a good chance it'll still make it. try digging a hole at the sand/rock interface and putting it there, buried in sand but with the foot against rock. try decreasing the flow until it attaches.

My tank is young! only 3 months old and its my first salt water tank. Ill try digging a hole but ive tried quite a few times. Im not sure if the anemone was healthy or not my guess is no because it came from petco! Ill try decreasing flow

Well, from this picture it doesn't look like a LTA to me. Looks like a bleached Sebae (Heteractis crispa). What's your SG? You should give it time to acclimate, it may have just been doing a 'water change'. If it's sick there's not a lot you can do about it. Google it and read up on it's care.

From LiveAquaria ... "Acclimation to aquarium life can be very difficult for this species.... In the aquarium it requires strong lighting, porous live rock, and a variety of sandy and rocky locations from which it can choose to live. The addition of a Clownfish, such as the Blue Striped Clown, Amphiprion chrysopterus, will immediately help with its acclimatization and improve its chances of survival. When healthy, it will become very sticky."

That's a LTA or Macrodactyla doreensis. As mentioned above try placing him near the rockwork, a cove type setting is probably best at this point to minimize flow that might cause it to "uproot." Your anemone is bleached so it is possible with a MH T5 combo, it might be recieving to much light in it's current state. What wattage of metal halide lamps are you using? Many people on here have had luck recovering bleached anemones by providing a shaded area accomplished by putting 3 layers of window screen material over their anemone and then removing 1 layer every 5-7 days. This helps to slowly acclimate your anemone to your lighting. With all that said, probably the number one thing you can do to help your anemone recover is don't touch it. Too many people manhandle their anemones in the beginning in order to "help" them. This causes an enormous amount of stress to the animal in my experience. I hope this helps. Please keep us updated.

Well im just not sure! The anenome looks to have wedged himself underneath a rock. It looks like hes finally attached but he actually looks much worse today. All his tentacles are sagging and falling over doesnt seem to be moving at all. Some of his tentacles appear to be very shriveled up :S. Ill try to update with another picture soon. Thanks for the replies!

Also my wattage on my MH is 250 and my t5s are 100. Thats a grand total of 350 when i have them all turned on but i rarely do that. I have been trying to acclimate him to the light by starting with mh on for just a few hours then turning it off. Making shade for it does seem to be interesting tho i might try that even though i fear it might be to late.

update!

update!

So heres a new pic and someone asked me what my SG was well i dropped my meter and smashed it to pieces when i was taking pictures. But i believe it is around a 1.025. Also sorry the picture is so blurry i could not get a good angle on him.
