This is my crazy idea for a stand including 2 display refugiums. Each refugium being an all glass 20 Tall 24x12x16

thats a cool idea, i built my own stand also, i see alot of people go overboard trying to brace, mine is built ou of 2x4's and oak veneer plywood and its worked out great, i see people use 4x4's and it seems like overkill, and make it as tall as poosible, mine is 38", in hindisght i should of made it 40" or 42" and my canopy is 13" tall so my 250 hqi;s are about 11 inches off the water

One problem is I am vertically challenged. So I am not sure how much taller I can go. Although whether we go taller or not, I am going to need a ladder either way.

You'll be real happy with the LAIIIs you could even use the LA minis on a 24" tank.

You should test "your" VorTech on the 3/4" acrylic, they seem to have very isolated issues on some units with the 3/4" materials and more problems ocurr as you get thicker. Your pump may be just fine, whenever you get a chance to do a water test, run it for a while and check the operating temp.

I absolutly love my MP40 with the wireless controller on my 1/2" glass I have now but will use them onevery tank I set up until something better comes along. Personally I still like and run Tunzes with the MP40 they work great together and are further enhanced in a large tank with a CL running too. I am looking to run all three types of flow in my 220.

Yea one of my two MP40W's already gets too hot to keep your hand on it, so probably not a good move acrylic wise. We are going to be trying to build some osrt of box for them, but why risk it on the acrylic I think.
 
Well I picked up 2 of the Lumenarc3's today, man are they beasts, but soo reflective. I love them :)

So now I just need to find one more reflector.
 
Well finally finished buffing tonight, the tank seems to be perfectly clear with a few small (previously large) scratches left on the inside I can't seem to get out, but seem to disappear completely with a little water. Will try to get some pictures up tonight.

hey josh i did some number on the super dart vs the barrcuda and are as follows.

barrcuda dollars per year are 255.48
super dart is 183.96

diff of 71.25

buy diff is 90 more for the dart. so you would save 18.75 for the first year. plus you get 8 feet more head.

the following years you have a diff of 71.25 for the year or 5.93 a month

not bad for an extra 8 feet of head. i don't thing there is a pump on the market that yould give you 8 feet of head for 6 dollars a month. a little giant 2 would be 8.41 a month and you would loose the realstate in the stand plus the cost of plumbing
 
Well in the mean time, while I am acquiring equipment, I have started fantasizing over my future fish stocking plan for the 300G.

I am looking for suggestions on interesting but affordable additions, no $100+ fish please.


My current stocking list in my 120 which will be moving over to the 300G (with the exception of the chromis)

Pair Black Occelaris
2x Pajama Cardinal
1x Blue/Green Chromis
1x Possum Wrasse
1x Mandarin Dragonette
2x Neon Gobies


In my 40G

Pair Seabae Clowns
Gumdrop Velvitfish
Pajama Cardinal
Yellow Watchman Goby




I am considering adding both sets of clowns, a little bit nervous on this one, but the seabaes don't stray more then 8" from their RBTA in general. And the occelaris don't stray more then a foot from their favia. So I in an 8 foot tank, I am hoping to get them to ignore eachother, if they don't one pair will likely end up in one of the small 20G tanks on the side.


I want the foxface, our favorite fish to continue to be the largest fish in the tank, so No Tangs. I want smaller interesting fish. So far the things that are coming to mind are fairy wrasses, anthias, chalk bass, and another type of cardinals.

Any species suggestions would be greatly appreciated, so I can start tracking down suppliers.
 
Well I've been real sick lately. I am going to be giving my friend a call and we are going to hopefully get together and start working on the stand sometime real soon.

I also found a great deal on the hammerhead pumps so I am good to go with them.

The big suprise cost was when we got a quote on bringing 2 dedicated 20Amp circuits over to the tank wall. $660... Holy Crap. Anyway, more progress coming soon I hope.
 
That sucks, I wanted to do the same thing with the circuits. Did you ever figure out what you are doing about the VHO's I still have the PFO ballast and sockets if your interested.
 
hey Joshua...what was it that you used to polish the glass? And where can I get it? I have a used tank that I am in process with and it needs a little help. It isn't bad, but would be cool if I could make it better.
