do u have a link to the place where u learned to make the faux bottom or a step by step of how u did it

even though I blabbed alot, you should read the text I wrote up above.. The link is there.

Here it is again: http://reefcentral.com/forums/showt...392144&perpage=25&highlight=faux&pagenumber=1

and even though I havent taken pics of it yet, it came out awesome! After 72 hours I peeled off the duct tape liner, and the stuff is situated perfectly on the starboard. I can add and remove my sandbed in seconds!

Nice work so far. Going to jump in the fun here and hit the tag-along button below :)

Pressure going into the unit has a lot to do with it`s output. I had mine initially hooked up in a bathroom vanity, tapping into the cold water line there. Spied an adapter at Lowe`s one day while browsing and got the idea to move it into the laundry room. By using a Y-adapter and the adapter I spied, This hooked up very easily. Then just shove the waste line down the drain a few inches and voila!
It increased the output on my ro/di 3 fold.

I was using an outside spigot which definetely had enough water pressure -- no doubt about that.

I also brought the unit in their store, and hooked it up outside at their place. Same performance. I think its the membranes used. They must be absolute crap.

Hey Christian! How's it been? I miss seeing ya at the store, man. These employees are causing me pain! I had to teach them how to use an RO machine.. and I had never used one!

Go Gators!!! :)
I ordered a RO/DI from Filter Direct and it is ok. Puts out more water than what you pictured... however if I had know then what I know now I would have bought the better AirWaterIce Typhoon III unit as well. No big deal but I will probly upgrade one day when/if I move to a new house.
What store did you get it from? AquaTropics, the one west on Archer Rd, or the other store north on Main St???
About your fish stocking list.... be careful of the Purple Tang in that size tank. I am not a member of the Tang police I just wonder if the fish would get too aggressive and chase all the other fish in the tank and cause them to get sick from all of the stress.
Good luck. :)

bkwudzjeep: glad to hear it!

JustOneMoreTank: Aquatropics tends to be more expensive with equipment, but cheaper on live stock. I purchased my tank/stand/sump and the old(er) RO unit from Ocean Exotics. They are on Archer Rd. west of I-75. I dont know of any other marine stores in Gainesville.

The purple tang is horribly far from a "guranteed" fish. I am still very torn on even getting that final "show piece" fish. I will introduce everything else slowly and monitor the water quality for some time before I make that jump, but thanks for the warning!

Hey sorry, yeah I left there as well as the rest of the original crew, so unfortunately for them they have very little in experience right now. I haven't been there often after I left, only thing I went there for were fighting conchs.

I didn't know you were staying in g-ville, thats great that you got the job! I definitely can't wait till you finish the set up, and post more pics :)

Can you offer any more info on how you made the sand bed? And perhaps a shot of it when placed in the tank. Looks very interesting to me.
And thanks for the spray bar idea, I am going to steal it.......um I mean incorporate it for my tank, yeah that`s it, incorporate :D

:beachbum:

hey, all of my ideas here have already been done. Further up I pasted a link to the faux sand bed mega-thread. You will find lots of details there.

Check it out first, and any additional questions you have, hit me up with. It went really well for me.

Doh! right there in your 1st post! Don`t know how I missed that. Old age I suppose. Thanks.

I know of an aquatic store that is north of University Ave I think on Main Street maybe. I cannot recall if it is a freshwater only store or if they also carry marine stock. When I was in college I only had freshwater so I was mostly into that... I would often stare with amazement at the marine and reef stuff and snap back to reality when I would look at the prices that go along with the salt water stuff. :)

Im pretty sure I know who you mean(t) -- Aquarium Connection. They closed down about 1year ago.

IT'S HERE!

I am hooking it up and flushing it as we speak.

Typhoon III w/ TDS + Valve from http://www.airwaterice.com/

Packing was great, on-phone service was good.

My tap water seems pretty fair upon measuring -- only 150ppm.
