Montgomery area get together #2

I've got a few more that aren't online that may be able to come. One is a friend that runs maintenance on tanks and another is a guy I met through him. There is a third, but ghe is in and out of town all the time. I'll see what he says anyway:).

Just found this site, would love to meet some others in the area. Doubt I would have anything to swap at the moment, but possibly. Just keep the info flowing on the forum about arrangements.

Hey Chris...
[welcome]

I'm in Millbrook, so not far from you. come on over. as far as I know, it's still on 9/20 around 7pm.

oh, btw, you don't need to swap anything to come. if you see something you like that Gflat (gary) has posted, let him know and he can bring it for you. I"ve never bought anything from him, but his stuff looks great!!

I will ask for directions when it gets closer. I just spoke to my friend Tony, whom some of you know, and he mentioned that he made the last one and might make this one. Looking forward to it. Tony has told me about Gary's stuff. I have to wait to get bigger tank/new tank with better light to handle alot of his stuff.

Hey Chris,

Tony H. told me you were going to leave a post. Be sure to clear that Saturday, if possible. It sounds like it'll already be bigger than last month's:).

Tony is my backbone in this hobby. We worked together for so many years at the zoo. I go to him for reef/tank stuff and he comes to me for herp/invert stuff. I seldom do anything to my tank w/o consulting him. He sees too many tanks to let mine get screwed up.

I'll try to post some pictures in the next week of the stuff I can bring. Right now, I'd be happy if a couple of people might have a small amount of chaeto and pods to share. I've got some chaeto myself, but my pods are down for some reason - I don't have a wrasse or mandarin, but maybe one of my other fish is snacking hearty.

Is there a set date for a frag swap yet. I'd like to meet some of the local reefers but I'm a restaurant manager so my weekends are pretty well tied up unless I know in advance.

btw, anybody go to MACNA? I got some great stuff for nearly nothing the last hour of the trade show. well worth the trip.

I didn't go to the last local meeting in, which was held in August. But, to answer your question, I think they discussed it and Gflat (Gary) is working on it??? but, there is no "official" frag swap date. we are just having our 2nd get together at my house a week from this Saturday, 7pm. Let me know if you can attend.

I'm pretty sure I'll be able to make this. gflat65, I'm an SPS nut but I came home with an Acan and some Chalice corals from MACNA that are making me want some LPS. Depending on price, I'll probably take one of everything you have. just PM me.

Julie,

We had Will, Ken, Tony, and myself at the last meeting. Tony's little brother came by, too. He is interested in a tank at some point. Tony's anniversary is next weekend, I think, so I don't think he can make it. I have talked to two others, but haven't gotten anything concrete from them on whether they are comign or not.

Chris-Tony was the first person I met in Montgomery that had tanks. He's my main partner in crime:).

I'm still waiting to hear back from several places on the swap idea. I contacted about 15 different places around town to check pricing and have a few other ideas to check out. If anyone goes to a church with a big auditorium type place, that might be another avenue to try. Chattanooga's swap had tons of room in the church gym. Of course, they may cost more than I'd like (thinking cheap;)).

Draco-if you got some chalices and acans, you probably went by Casey's table with Bluegrass, huh:)? I picked up a lot of stuff from Casey before MACNA, then got more there. I should have gone back Sunday... I know it becomes a bit of a frenzy in the end. By the end of the weekend, I'll have my acan's and micros cut as much as I want for now. This new diamond band saw kicks butt.

Bluegrass is where I got them. The chalices are metallic red, metallic pink and purple and he just gave me a yellow and green. The Acan was a huge red and green 18 head until my Mithrax threw the red chalice onto it. Now it's missing a few heads but coming back strong. I got a ton of frags from Mr. Coral b/c they were buy one get one free. the only thing I really wanted that I didn't find was a superman goniapora, but I brought home quite a few Tyree montis. That made me forget about the superman for a minute.

Two here (me and my wife), and I'll try to get word from my friends.

Draco-I think I picked up a SM goniopra at the Chattanooga swap. You mean red/pink with blue mouths, right? I really like this one. I've seen them around, but not too often... I can pick one up for you in Memphis (swap next weekend) if there happens to be one, if you'd like. Getting ready to post some shots of my acan tank after fragging. I needed to make some room:).

Gary and all,

Think I scored a cool swap location. We can use the large conference hall at the Drury Inn off I-85, exit 6. It's a fantastic venue, easy to find, they will provide all the tables and chairs, and they don't mind a hundred aquariums being set up.

Price = free.

The only caveat is it has to take place before Nov 26, and we have to work around the dates it's already reserved (this won't be hard).

Let me know...

Also...Julie, could I get directions for Saturday?

Ken
