Montgomery area get together #2

I don't want this to fall flat, so I wanted to offer up another chance for everyone to get together. Anyone interested in starting something in the area is invited. We had afew good peopel show up to the first one, so I'd like to see how many more we can get a a second one.

Right now, I'm thinking of the 13th or the 20th of September. With MACNA the weekend of 9/5, I wanted to stay clear of that (not sure how many are going, but I'm going;)). We can do it around the same time (5-6 oclock), if that works.

I still have a few of clams that need homes, as well as a plethora of frags of all kinds (SPS, softies, zoas, etc.), most of which I've had growing for almost a year now, so it is time to make some room for more cuttings. Feel free to bring frags for trade. I think everyone went home with something different than what they brought last time:).

Let me know if you think you can attend. We'll do some sort of snacks like last time (I think they went over pretty well, but let me know what you thought).

I'm hoping to have some preliminary info on potential frag swap locations. Ken-can you check pricing on renting tables and chairs? If anyone knows where we can get some tables and chairs at low cost, let me know. I'm afraid to put too much time into it until I know there are at least a few more people interested... Cost has to stay low since we don't have a club with funds yet. If anyone knows of a potential location, bring some info (contact info for renting, address, etc.). I've set them up in under a month before (first MTRC swap in Nashville didn't get a start until around Christmas and was held on the 3rd week of Jan;)), so it can be done. Raffle items would need to be held to live stock for now, unless I can find some donations soon. If that's the case, I'll make sure I can find some nice corals for the raffles.

Maybe I'll do some micro fragging finally, too;). I got a new tile saw for acans, but may stick with the hammer and chisel for micros;).

Initial date for a Montgomery swap looks liek it would have to be Oct 25th to avoid ball games. Auburn plays that Thursday and Alabama is in Tennessee (though no idea on time of the game since they are almost all TBA).

Date might be tough for me - daughter's birthday is the 22nd. Will try to shoot for having her party a week earlier.

when you guys talk frag swap, are you literally talking "swap-only" or would it be a swap and sale type of thing????

I've never been to a frag swap anywhere so I don't know the "norms" or usual etiquette for that sort of thing.....
I don't really have much to trade at this point in time at a frag swap but would still be interested in getting some frags from people if it was sale/trade???

Just wondering how it usually works?

Swaps are loaded with sale items. A lot of the time, trading comes before the swap (in threads with pics) or at the end of the swap when no one wants to take what they brought with them home. Always tons of frags, though. Pricing is usually in the $10-20 range, but for 'named' coralsm, the price can be higher (people usually sell at or near on line values on those types of items).

cool.... I can't go to Macna b/c of a trip but would definetly be interested in a frag swap in Montgomery!

sorry for sounding like an idiot with the questions, I just have no experience with "swaps" whatsoever!

Most that haven't been to one have the same questions you did;). The analogy that works best for me is a crack head in a crack shop, typically with cheap crack:D.

well, I got the go-ahead, so unless Gary you are just DIEING to have it at your house, we can do my house :) I'm in Millbrook, exit 181, just off the interstate in case anyone is wondering.

I'm free, of course (whatelse does a hermit do, right;)). I'll post some pics of the frags I have. If anyone wants me to bring some, just let me know. Of course, anyone can swing by whenever to look for themselves.

I know SPS are a hard sell around here, but I'll start with them first. All have been cut and growing for months (pretty much the case on all pics, except micros).
