month to month?

hello everyone... i've been reading/researching and planning for a few months now, and i have learned a ton from all of you... i won't be purchasing my first tank for a few more months still (i'm moving) but i'm definitely getting ready!

i'm just wondering what i should expect to pay in month to month costs? i know that the startup costs are the real hurdle, but i'm curious what i can expect to spend on test kits, food, additives, etc... not to mention what i can expect my LIPA bill to jump by!

i'm thinking i'm going to go with ~ 75 - 90 gallons...

any estimates would be greatly appreciated!

thanks

The month to month really depends on what you decide to keep. A softy tank can run off PC lighting with average flow, a full SPS setup will need strong light lighting and heavy water movement. The equipment you choose will also determine your LIPA bill. How often you do water changes and the volume you change will decide how much salt you need.

$30-$55

It is truely impossible to figure out what your monthly costs will be, lets just say, a lot. It's like Q said, it all depends on what you keep and the type of equipment, oh and how much equipment...

My guess, anywhere between $1 to $10,000.;)
If this is a deciding factor for you, then put aside a few hundred dollars and compare just your electric bill from before and after. Nevermind the cost of equipment and animals, or food for that matter.

If it's too much, sell everything quick. Just keep in mind, after you pay for your equipment, it's worth half or less then what you paid for it.

On the positive side, it has to be one of the most interesting hobbys in the world. If done right, it's extremely gratifying to watch your animals grow and reproduce.

I am a zoanthid collector, these are old pics (year or so), but you get the idea.

Welcome, btw!:D

There are months where I lay out very little say a 100.00 in supplies to where things go array and you spend a little more. But honestly your biggest expense will be the livestock. It adds up quick. But it is a fun and enjoyable hobby. Click on my little red house to see some pics.
