Monti bald spot and spawning snail?

Last night, the area was fluorescent green with thick brown polyps

Today, a bald spot right in the middle? Predation? Parasite?

About an inch away, there's a stomatella snail spawning alone? I have a lot of these guys all over my tank. From near invisible to an inch long.

Anyone know what's going on? Are the snail and bald spot related?

I have no idea what this is. It looks like a nudi but isn't moving. Looks like calcium fibers?

It's suspiciously close to the damaged area... Even looks like the coral is being eaten down to and including the skeleton?

Really could use some advice

Two locations?

Help. The area has doubled this morning.

This is my largest coral ~ a foot across and it attached to a solid 30lb rock!

What are my options?

I've never had nudibranchs.

I need to do something today. Please help!

Nudi...bad. Either u take out, scrap them and the eggs deep n clean outside the tank or the monti will be gone in a few days, spreading to other monti. If really unremovable, I would try epoxy the entire area. Epoxy larger than the affected area if possible n hope you epoxy up all the eggs. Else it will come back.

you have a montipora eating nudibranch infestation,is that the only montipora in the tank?
thinking you introduced a new monti which was infected.

can try a few wrasses to help keep them in check , problem is nudis come out at night, when wrasses don't. With such a large coral and many hiding places for the pests, the fish may never eat them all.

remove all monti from the tank and qt in another system

remove all montipora from the tank, wait a few months then start over

these pests are relentless, good luck

Is it possible to take out the whole coral and dip it? That would probably kill the eggs as well as the adults.

This thing is massive. It's about a foot in each dimension and heavy. It sits right on my sandbed.

I haven't added any coral for months now except a gorgonian. Could they have been under control before and something changed? I have peppermints, blue leg hermits, banded coral shrimp, green and red emerald crabs.

No wrasses. Had a six line 9 months ago but he disappeared while I was on a business trip.

I haven't seen them elsewhere but my tank is monti heavy and they all came in at about the same time 4 months ago from the same guy taking his tank down.

I did notice holes forming on the frags on my red cap, but they would close up again. Didn't think it was a parasite.

Most are superglued to my rock wall and base rock.

I'm getting a crash course on this. Should I get some bayer and try to dip this massive rock?

I have 20gal quarantine tanks but this one piece won't fit through the top!

I can dip in a big plastic tub.

Still can't get this through my head... I need to put Bayer insecticide in a dip and let my coral sit in that... On purpose...

What ratios? How long?

The only change is that I've been feeding a lot more...

Could the availability of other foods distracted my peppermints from their daily nudi eating?

I have not used Bayer, only Coral RX and lugol's iodine. Both have served me well. I have heard good things about Bayer and see no reason why you can't use that. Lugol's iodine I use 10 drops per litre and Coral RX 20ml per gallon. With iodine after dipping for 30 minutes with a powerhead running continuously I would find dead and dying bristle worms in water. Coral RX is a bit more harsh and I dip for 5-10 minutes max and again see dead pests in water. If you use Bayer just follow the directions. I don't see how else you can kill these pests and eggs without dipping them unless you want to introduce Camel shrimp (Rhynchocinetes durbanensis) which reportedly eat sps-eating nudibranches (and their eggs) but aren't reef safe. There are pros and cons to both methods but if you decide to dip it may be a long battle since they may have already moved to other corals in your tank. GL

I removed the rock and put it in a separate tub. There are a ton of crabs and tiny snails in and out of the rock gaps.

I'm assuming the dip will wipe them all out? I think fragging it and dipping the monti frags would be best.

Wow.

Found a post that talks about 10ml of Bayer in 4oz of water for 5mins.
In the 15gal container that'll hold this coral, that's 5 liters of Bayer!

I started by washing the coral by moving it in a dry container and then pouring saltwater over it until submerged. Repeated a couple of times.

Now I have a positive ID

About 3/8" long extended

When you remove the coral to rinse in tank water I'd advise you take out this pest (keep it alive) and put it in a small container of tank water just to observe whether it dies after the treatment. If not, you could experiment with this (and others you find) to see dose of bayer needed (and time) to kill it. Just a thought in case you need to repeat the treatment.
