Monti bald spot and spawning snail?

Thanks. That was the plan.

I found another 4 as I fragged the coral and removed it from the base rock. They seem to hide in the coral/rock interface where they're white on white.

I put the rock and other things in it. 4 emeralds, two starfish and a few baby shrimp into my quarantine tank. It'll stay fallow of monti so the rock should be ok in a few months. (It's a big rock)..

The flat frags now fit in a 3.5gal container filled with about 2gal of water. This reduces the collateral die off and potential risk of absorbing the insecticide and eventually releasing it to the tank.

I'm going to get the Bayer and see if I can get a yellow or 4line wrasse for the DT.

I'll put a small powerhead in the container to keep it from stagnating

I still have no idea where they came from. No sps corals added for months - just a very small gorgonian and a few crabs.

Maybe they were always there from when I got the coral and the growth was just keeping pace? Or maybe my peppermints were getting enough to eat so they weren't hunting enough.

before you dip the colony in Bayer, please try this.

Mix up Bayer 10ml of Bayer in 4oz water, and place an adult Nudi in the solution. Time how long it takes for the Nudi to die and keep us posted,

while you are cleaning the coral, may want to inspect for eggs, they look like cluster of small grains of rice, a tooth brush works well to remove them

you are off to a good start, best of luck and happy killing

I'm starting with one of the three big ones:

I'm using 1ml/4oz first in a 50ml tube. Filled with 40ml of water and added the nudi. Then added 0.33ml of Bayer. I'm using the Bayer complete concentrate.

<a href="http://s1062.photobucket.com/user/karimwassef/media/FAE8337A-78EB-4AC2-8B2E-18112A85EA21_zps1bcvl5oe.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1062.photobucket.com/albums/t496/karimwassef/FAE8337A-78EB-4AC2-8B2E-18112A85EA21_zps1bcvl5oe.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo FAE8337A-78EB-4AC2-8B2E-18112A85EA21_zps1bcvl5oe.jpg"/></a>

It stunned it but didn't kill it right away. It's not moving after 5 minutes but when I shake the tube, it moves again. So stunned, not killed.

15min and still moving but slowly.

Since I'm not willing to dip a coral for more than 15mins. I'm stopping there. I'll go to 3ml/4oz in the same mix. Adding 0.67 ml.

This isn't conclusive since this specimen has already been sitting in the 1ml/4oz for a while, but I'm curious if that duration + 3x dose will kill it.

I have two more big nudis to try afterwards.

After 7 mins in the 3x power, it seemed to get a second wind and started crawling again, but got stunned again. Then a couple of minutes, started crawling again. Clearly this isn't enough. I'm going to 10ml/4oz

Going to wash up and introduce my new wrasses. Then I'll check on it again for confirmation.

If still in the same location, I'll start a dip at 10ml/4oz for 5min.

six line, fairy, and melanurus and an arrow crab for good measure

good job, thanks for doing that.

In the experiments I ran with them Bayer did not kill them. I believe the 10ml per 4oz is stronger than what I used. Just looked back at some old threads, I used 10ml per cup, guess it wasn't strong enough

I was amazed when 1ml per 4oz was not a kill.. Then 3ml.. Still alive.

These are nasty bugs.

I couldn't see any on the coral when I ran the dip in a 120 oz container with 300ml (10oz) of Bayer. But as I pulled them out of the milky bath to the rinse bath, I could see them falling off. In the rinse, another 6 or so. The second rinse and settling bath, 2 more... All dead, but needed a shake to fall off.

The frags are back in a quarantine container with a powerhead and fresh water. I'll check on them later tonight.

During the poison cleanup, the bottom of the dip container was slimy with their bodies. Not sure how many.

Thanks. I don't know if I caught this early enough or not. There are nudis walking the glass of the quarantine with just the bare rock. I didn't dip it but I put it in there with no montis to eat and 3 peppermints with nothing else to eat. I'll let it sit for a few months.

My wrasses are being shy and hiding in the rock work. I'll be patient.

Feeding would help but I wanted to keep the tank hungry to get my scavengers (and wrasses) hunting for nudis.

What a PITA. The only way I could have gotten these is on the parent colony and it came in from a local reef keeper who was tearing his tank down. It was a whole tank's worth of coral - impossible to quarantine in anything less than my full tank.

After two nights in isolation with no signs of a nudi return, I'm putting the big frags in my sump. It's a chaeto sump with good flow and moderate light, but it also has a decent population of peppermint and glass shrimp. I'll keep an eye on them there.

In the isolation tank, I kept the smaller frags and the one I first found the parasite on. It's basically a container with a powerhead. Every night, I do a water change from my DT.

The rock in the quarantine tank is getting picked by the peppermints there.

The wrasses disappeared after 15 seconds and haven't reappeared since adding them. I have an intricate rock work with a thick sand bed, so there's a ton of nooks and crannies to disappear into, but they didn't come out to eat either.

Worried about them, but can three wrasses simultaneously die when introduced? I acclimated them with the peppermints and arrow crab, and those are out and eating. The peppermints at night, of course.

Caught a glimpse of the six line before it disappeared in the rock work.
The melanurus was finally out and hunting this morning.
The fairy is still MIA.

I'm tempted to put all the frags in the sump. No signs of nudis yet.

5 days after the dip and I see new nudis on the montis in my sump and outside container. Eggs must have hatched since there were no other sources.

All frags are back on n the external container. Going for another dip today before they're old enough to lay more eggs.

I see some on my sump glass too. I hope my pump shreds any that I miss before they return to the DT.
