Monti Capricornis

In Australia we seem to struggle to find monti cap. I picked up this one and was wondering if you guys thought it was cap or just an encrusting one? If it is cap, any suggestions on what it likes in regards to flow would be appreciated. I recall something about direct flow to make them scroll.

I feel your pain buddy, ive been trying to find a cap for a fair while now. I know they are out there as i have seen them in totm's on masa. Sadly i think what you have there is the encrusting type found in many lfs. Some guy had a stunning green one in a shop i deal with in perth while he upgraded his display, he wasnt willing to frag it though! i tried!

Whos tank of the month? I would like too see because i have not noticed. I know mgrave has a lime green one which i had the same colony a few years back.

I think this purple one could be one of the scrolling ones too. Hence why I am asking advice from the USA reefers seen as they have seen many.
I dont think the one i have got is common. I have been collecting acros for 10years and never come across one like it.
Dont get me wrong i am very happy with the piece regardless of what it is just curious.

i think water flow had alot to do with making them scroll
here is a shot of mine.i gave all the orangs away got to big.

Can't believe he wouldn't frag it for you guys. The caps grow so fast, people in the states sometimes give pieces away. I got a small green one for free just the other day.

I truelly envy you guys in the states for the availability of livestock!

There are a few Caps in Perth Rob if you want a piece of this one drop around I am sure we can set up a trade (it is fluro green I just can't take a good photo and the ambient light is washing out the MH)

Yeah it is not a problem come along I will snap of a bit for you it is only coral and it serves two purposes

1. It gets more of these types of corals out there (it will encourage everyone to share)

2. If my system ever goes tits up I know who to call on to get a piece of the green cap back (I have fragged this up for several people now I know Dave (Stormtrooper) has a nice colony growing as well).

I actually have a very large piece sitting on a rack that I am going to auction of on the day and donate the money back to the club.

Like everyone says these Caps grow incredible fast under the right conditions so it is not a hassle to continuously frag them.

Cheers

Wow this is funny to hear, monti caps are very common around here and cheap very cheap.
Aussie corals are very highly sought after and you guys want our common corals?
culture shock!!!
Flow has alot to do with the ammount of scrolling they will do, the more flow the more scrolling youll get in my experience.
I have orange, purple, green, tyree flower, and a couple others kicking around in my living room reef.
If you werent so far away id hook ya up!!

Well thanks heaps, i really appreciate that. Ive actually just been speaking to Dave online in regards to some acro frags, nice guy!

Ill be at the meeting for sure, i dont really have anything worth fragging atm, om only just getting into sps, but when i do ill be sure to throw them towards you and Dave. Im actually British, ive been over here for 3 years, and currently dont know any local reefers so its going to be a treat to come to my first meeting and meet a few people with common interests. Thanks again!

People always want what they cant have! I think your right regarding the distance, but its very kind of you to offer! Ill be sure to put the monti in a high flow zone then to encourage the scrolling!

Interesting I am getting page load errors trying to access RTAW.

Did you speak to Dave this morning

Cheers
