It's hard to say, but they can stick around for a while, even months. There are a few posts here about the lifespan of these nasty little guys. I believe someone wrote a paper? Good luck!
I have battled with them before and it really came down to a lot of dipping and a lot of brushing the bottoms of my montis. In the end I cut my losses and threw the piece that was causing all the trouble away. It's about trying to get rid of the eggs.
