Monti eating nudies

So hi there I'm still pretty new to rc and I usually post in my clubs forum however I thought I would try a forum that gets more traffic for this question. I would like buy a some what hard to find frag off a person that has monti eaters in their tank and I don't want them in mine. My tank is predominatly sps and I have a few cool monti's. Will a simple dip do the trick or will it leave the eggs? Can anybody give me some advise please.

I would not mess with it i had them in my tank and it took a year of plucking them before they were gone.

I have a softie grow out tank separate from my main tank for giggles I tossed a piece of my tricolor in there and although it's a lovely shade of brown it is still growing and encrusting. was thinking I could use his tank to quarintine the new piece. It's a frag of purple monster and it's coming from who I belive to be a reliable reefer. I've wanted one for a while now but a lil nervous about the nudies I have had no problems in my tank I'd like to keep it that way. Will a dip kill the buggers or should I quarintine and for how long or should I stay away from this one altogether. The person selling the frag is on rc his handle is reefbum

I vote go for it since you have a quarantine tank. I've had these in a previous tank, and they lived on the specific coral they were hosting on. It's possible that the person has spread them all over the tank by blowing them around, but it's my PERSONAL EXPERIENCE entirely anecdotal, and not guaranteed, that they will only lay eggs on a host coral. If it's a loose frag you should be perfectly fine also, since they can't lay eggs on the actual coral tissue. If it's on a frag plug, toss it and reglue it on your own rock.

It took 3 months for them to show up on my monty. I threw out the colony and scraped the rock. Whatever was left behind is nudi free and is growing back quickly

go for it if its a frag you think is at a great price and all the other factors. just make sure if its on a frag plug to definitely throw it away..!

Good advice here... Anyone that tells you otherwise has not dealt with monti nudis before...

I'd just look for another source... Why buy a really nice frag and throw it into a tank where you know it will brown out... I'm all for quarantining, but its hard enough maintaining good coloration, why start behind the 8 ball?

So far I have gathered that I don't want to mess with these monti eating bad boys but just for the sake of knowing if they did get in my tank is there any way to kill them other than removing all my montipora and starving them?
