what does my monti cap color tell me about my over-all health of my system?

it used to be very deep orange, but now as the colony has matured and gotten HUGE, its color ha vanished to a pale, pinkish orange. still growing strong though, is this a flow issue / nutrient issue. or just something that happens to large colonies

I have two colonies in the 1700g tank, both about the size of dinner platters and one has stayed red and one turned pinkish and I believe they are from the same parent colony that was split. I think the pink one gets a little less flow. So to answer your question... I don't know.

Do u use any form of led supplement for lighting? Have u been keeping u w regular water changes? My small tank I had the caps lost Color when I was being lazy on water changes.

I'll add that the pink colored one is putting on way more new growth than the red one at the moment. Again I don't know if growth and color are related or not though.

10-15 gallon changes on a 75 gallon tank every other week. i definitely dont mess around when it comes to SPS tanks. and LED lighting isnt necessary i believe. Im running a radium setup as it is.

Hows your calcium levels ?
I noticed one time when mine dipped under 380 that mine lost color 2 and came back when i maintained 425.

been around 400 . recently hooked up my auto dosers, but my issue has been longer lasting than that

I moved some of my monti's from 175 watt halides to 250 watt halides and what a difference. I have been getting really vibrant deep colors. I suggest examining what you are using for lighting.

2x250 watt radium setup is IMO one of the best SPS lighting choices that you can have. and i maitain fresh bulbs every 10 months. It seems that the problem is stemming from the water.

I'm still not convinced that the color change is a problem, especially if it is growing fast. You should post a picture.

How much flow do you have going on in the tank?Does the colony itself get a good dose of flow? (remember as the colony gets larger it 's gonna need more flow) Does the colony get a good dose of light? Just a couple of questions....

For me, when mine gets pale it's one of three things. SG too high or dKH too low or elevated DOC's.

well not the whole colony is as bad off, there are good colors, im thinking its a flow issue, and or light
