Montipora Cap

Would I be able to put a montipora cap in a 10 gallon aquarium? I have never gotten a montipora coral before but I heard that they are easy to care for. I was researching them and I want to get a montipora cap. I know I could fit one in there but how often would I have to frag it? Thanks

Theoretically, I guess you could. But montiporas grow rapidly, probably the fastest SPS extant, they get larger than a 10 gallon tank, and suck calcium and other elements out of water so fast you'd have to do daily water changes. You'd spend so much on lighting, etc. it would be highly cost inefficient to keep one in a 10. Very impractical.

A long as the lighting is sufficient and you keep things like Alkalinity, Calcium and Magnesium within limits you should be fine. These corals are really easy to prune/frag too, so growth shouldn't be a problem either. You can basically just break these corals apart with your fingers if need be.

It can be done although you'll have to stay on top of dosing.

As for growth rate - The one I had in my 120DT went from thumbnail sized frag to too big to fit in a 5g bucket in about 2 years, and that was with multiple large fraggings.
