Montipora Capricornis Question

I bought a Monti frag last night at an auction for $5. I figured why not... It is attached to a plug (which I hate)

How fragile is this type of coral? Can I try to take it off the plug? I was afraid to break it.

And where in the tank should I put it? I have a T5 set up with 6 bulbs on my 65 gallon.

Thx. Yes, I am a newbie.

hard to say without seeing how it is attached, but super glue is fairly brittle, so if it's attached using that, and you can get some needle0nose or wire clippers around the glue, you can fracture it off (the glue makes a pretty good surface for attaching the frag too). The coral itself can fracture fairly easily, so don't put too much pressure over an expanse of it.

Monti caps break pretty easily, I'd snip the peg off the plug and leave the rest. The coral will over grow the cap pretty quickly and you'll never know it was there.

This worked perfect. I forgot that I had some very small needle nose pliers. I was able to get under the cap and snipped away. It popped off fully intact. Looks like it had epoxy and super glue.

I was able to just put a fresh coat of epoxy and glue back on it and it attached perfectly to the live rock.
