Montipora pest?

Hi there,

I added a montipora Superman a few months ago to my tank.

It hasn't been doing very well though, it has browned out.
Although I have not had much succes keeping SPS (green slime acropora being an exception) I noticed some weird things on my montipora when the lights almost go out.

There are white, fluffy things, they seem stationary, cant really make out a shape of them. I have seen montipora nudibranches in the past, these look different, more fluffy... Although I can't rule them out. I can't remove them from the coral, they are firmly attached.

I would prefer to not remove the coral for dipping, I always have problems liming the coral back on the rock, and I've seen bad reactions from corals after dipping.

Any idea's?

Ya if they are nudis which they surely sound like, gluing it back down will be the least of your problems. Take it out and dip it. Are the white fluffy things in different spots each day?

Sorry for the delay, here are some pictures.
If they are nudibranches, it doesn't look like they are doing damage to the coral, although it is browned out...

Haven't seen any of the things moving, but I have not checked it for a longer period.

Wow that's a healthy specimen! Great job... and looks like mesenterial filaments from my house.

Mesenterial filaments? Whats that?

I took the coral out today to look for any nudibranches. I've fought montipora nudibrances earlyer on one of my caps, they usually hide on the underside of the coral at day. Didn't see any, quite a relief.

You say it is healthy, but it is has browned a lot. When I bought it it had a nice bright blue base... But I admit it looks better close up. From further away it looks like a brown clump...

They are a sign of health or stress.. they are used to fight other corals, or digest food. Its basically like spewing it's internals out. And when I say healthy, I am looking at the PE in particular.

I do not think that you have nudibranches. It is possible that some detritus/sand settled on your coral which then caused tissue damage. Do you have good random flow in your tank?
