Montipora question

I picked up a gorgeous orange/red montipora a few weeks ago.

My qeustion is: it's not really lighter/white around the edges, does this mean its not growing?

Also, there was a bright red...object on it.. It was pretty small, i blew at it with a tiny baster a bit and it flew off, revealing a white spot underneath...any idea? I couldn't find it after that.

edit: its a monti cap

it could be a preditor of montis... monti eating nudibranch?

you should see white around the edges which is new growth.

like my monti digitata below.... and its starting to encurst on the rock also

It might not be growing, but it's only been in your tank a few weeks. I've had some corals tank months to adjust before they take off and start growing. The red object could be anything, its tough to tell without a picture. It could have been something eating the coral, or it could have been a piece of debris that was blocking that spot from getting light. Try and get a picture next time if you can. And give the monti a few more weeks to adjust. It should be fine.
