Montipora Questions, Advice please?!

I bought what I believe to be Tongan live rock from my lfs about a month and a half or two months ago. On a side note, my lfs keeps live rock in two seperate vats which have had other live rock in them from different parts of the world, so I MAY have taken home small pieces of live rock from other regions (sorry for the dissonance!)
In my live rock, a piece of rock has a dark pink piece of coral on it, and it looks a lot like montipora. It has just a few polyps, and the piece is no larger than a centimeter long by a half a centimeter wide. However, a small branch has already popped out from the main piece, proving that it has already begun to grow. I brought it to my lfs and they too have said it looks like Montipora. I moved it to the highest rock in the tank (maybe 6 inches deep in the water column) and I'm hoping it will continue to grow.
I have two questions. First off, every few days I need to scrub off algae from the surface of the coral. Is this normal? I need to get more snails, I underestimated. Second, besides having trace elements in the tank, which I'm not concerned about, is there any other care I should know about these coral? I've never kept coral before, and so I'm a little concerned. This is my basic system: http://www.amazon.com/JBJ-Nano-Cube-Aquarium-Fluorescent-Lighting/dp/B0026XRJF8.
Any help or comments would be AWESOME.

Specific gravity,Alk,Calcium and Mag should be at normal levels for SPS..flow, temp and a low balance of nutrients..no algae should be growing on the coral..why dont you take a pic..we'd love to se this piece!

Okay, the quality is terrible, if it even posted at all. Spent 45 minutes through photobucket and my pictures just to get this crappy photo up! Oh well, now I know how to do it for next time.
