Montipora Setup questions

I would like to make a specific tank to of those being Montipora type corals. I wanted to run my plan by everyone here to get suggestions and advice first.

The tank is a 40g breeder will be BB with RDSB in the fuge with some type of marco(yet to figure that out). Sump/fuge will be DIY about 25g total, running at about 18g or so. Recirculating skimmer feed from a Calfo overflow that will be split to feed the Fuge as well. Iwaki 20RLT or simular pump head will be about 5' more or less so I am looking at about 430gph from the pump. I would love to do a CL but for now I am going to stick a seio 620 and 820 in the display one low and one a little higher to keep organics suspended as much as possible. For lighting I am looking at running a 4X39w T5HO with SLR reflectors on regular T5 ballasts. Bulb combo of 2 aquablues and 2 blue+ lamps. I might need to add a daylight not sure. Mainly going with T5HO due to the high heat in the summer down here in Texas. How does this sound so far anything I need to add look at. Once again thanks for you time.

Well I am trying to figure that one out. I was trying to make this as simple as possbile. Can it be done without a reactor? I figured if I did water changes with oceanic(high calcium) and added as needed I could wait on a reactor.

For now you can use randy's 2 part to maintain your levels. It is very cheap. I don't like reactors myself, and plan to buy an autodoser to automatically dose my DIY 2 part rather than doing it myself.

I think you would need to be doing allot of water changes to keep up with the CA uptake in a monti tank!

Yeah, this sounds awsome

Use Chetomorpha in the fuge...

Do you plan on running a skimmer?
Do you plan on useing RODI water?

What species are you keeping?
Some good ones would be those rare Monti Danae color forms...
Yeah, you could starts a small business if you got those going mad!!!

Wiskey that is what I have been reading about during lunch. That is what I plan on doing. I will more then likely build a little cabinet to house the tank to hold the top-off so that it is hidden from view right next to the tank and set it up like you have there.
Shawn as far a species I am looking at M. capricornus, M. digitata, M. danae for sure if I can find frag that are little cheaper. Those are what I am looking at for now however there are others I am sure of that I would like to have. I like all of them but in a 40g would be rather hard to keep them all much less find them. As far as a skimmer yes I will be running a Pacfic Coast Import recirculating skimmer this one to be exact http://www.reeftanksupply.com/product_info.php?products_id=417 and yes RO/DI for sure I have the RO unit already that we use for drinking water. I am going to change out the membrane and the filters to 1 micron and 75gpd membrane and add a DI unit to it. Drinking water will go through all but the DI. Ihope to bemoved into our own house so I can setup a long and wide tank. Some thing like a custom 48"X36"X20" 135g or so. Here in South Texas the heat plays a big part and so MH are kind of out for me so a T5HO would be best.

Yeah, MH do put off alot of heat,

T5s are good, but Id slam a bunch of them on their to max out color/growth...

I don't understand, like what that I have? You can't dose 2 part in an autotopoff, they will precipitate each other out. You can however dose Kalk that way, if that is what you are after.

Sorry I was reading Randy's 2 part and about and using an autodoser. Thanks for the input and sorry about the confusion and thanks for clearing things up for me.

Also take a look at M. Spongodes (love it) and M Hispita. Both are pretty cheap, and kinda neat.

Thanks those will be added to the list. Think that 4X39w T5HO with IC reflectors will be enough? I thought about going with 1 GE 1 aquablue and 2 blue+ lamps. Or do I really need to add another 2 lamps to the setup?
