Montipora?

Is this a montipora? My LFS was selling it as a chalice, but it looks to me like a montipora

wow, never thought this would be a LPS. My LFS said this was a chalice but I was questioning it, since it looked more like a hard coral. Are they easy to keep? Its labeled as easy but if it was easy I'd think it would be cheaper.

easy to keep alive but a slow grower. chalices are also the in coral now so that adds a little extra to the price.

This is the fastest growing chalice I have ever had, I finally had to frag it up so that it wouldn't overtake the corals around it. Mine grew more like a cap so I understand where the montipora id would come from. I would watch carefully an night, mine put out some very long stinger tentacles towards a nearby coral.

how do you frag it? Just cut of a piece of the plate and place it in a nearby rock?

Just like a cap, since it grows so thin you can probably just snap it with your hands. Dremel or snips if you want a more acurate break. If it encrusts on the rock you would need a dremel or other tools.
