Montipora

How can I get a plating montipora to plate this way? I have bought 3 colors of plating montipora, red, green and violet. I would like to attach all three to the same piece of rock to get them to plate infront of one another and get this result in different colors. Is it possible? Do I need multiple frags of the same color or just 3 frags with different colors will do?

patience. I find they really grow and show better color up in high light. That said, I don't keep them high up anymore cuz they grow too fast and block out a ton of light.

Many say they doo fine in lower light, which is true but I certainly dont get the growth or color I had when they were higher.

But if placed high near the light the plate will only get larger in diameter, would not get this effect like the pic no?

Flow ime more flow the bumpier they grow less flat like
Since you have three frags take pieces of each color and glue them to a rock they will cup and swirl naturally above it looks like two red colonies with a green encroaching on the red

You can grow monti caps in toilet water with a table lamp. I keep mine low, seems to help the color stay rich.

So if I place them low in the tank with high flow I will be good to get that result from them plating around?

Yes. Their shape is largely determined by flow. I have Monti Caps with big ridges in them because their in high flow. Another colony of the very same coral is nearly flat because it's in low flow.

Ah, the vast generalization. It's always risky and seldom correct. Monti Caps are easy to grow but there are many Monti's that'll be the first to go if you don't have a stable reef.
