Monti's grow like crazy, Acro's die??

both of those powerheads shoot out a thin jet of water, but don't really move alot of water.you can modify the maxijet if your handy-check the diy threads or the seios move lots of water.with a 35gal tank an 820 seio will work wonders, but if you have a sand bed maybe the 620 might be a better choice.there are also some people who will make and sell the majijet mod for a reasonable price-just check the diy threads.

Is the piece newly mounted? Is it mounted with epoxy ? Some epoxy generates a lot of heat when it cures, causing damage to the coral base.

Are the acros being hit with laminar flow? Do you have an ocillating head for the powerheads?

I think you should get the nitrates down as well.

You don't really have a lot of flow either. I have a 38g and have 4 maxijet 1200's blowing across the top of my tank + my return I am going to up that soon as I can.

Frag was mounted with epoxy, and dont have ocillating on the powerheads. I thought that because of the shape of the tank and placement of the powerheads creates a decent circular flow I wouldnt need the ocillating. Will give the new ocillating powerheads a try. Will also work on the nitrates (hard to do in my setup) I dont feed every day and I am only running a skimmer. Trying to do as natural as possible on a budget. Any suggestion on mounting unmounted frags without using the epoxy??

Superglue gel works really well as MACDad said. You can't really have too much flow the more the better.

yes...Epoxy alone isn't good on the frags. Super glue gel to form a barier between the epoxy and the frag.

I don't think flow is your issue, although you definetely need alot more. I think that would prolly cause poor polyp extention (PE) but thats about. How is the color of your frags...are they colored nice or all brown. If brown...phosphates would be my guess as well.

How long do you have your light on. What kind of skimmer do you have.

I have had no luck mounting frags with superglue in my tank- something always knowcks them off before they encrust. I have started mounting them to a plug of some sort in a "grow-out" tank and moving them to the tank once they begin to encrust. If you have no large snails, hermits or urchins though you may be alright mounting them with superglue directly in the tank.

this happened to me a couple times...I now make the plugs out of the epoxy...it's easy for me with the marshall island rock...theres always a place so stick the small plugs
