montis starting to die

for some reason the skin on them is receeding, params normal, all other sps fine.


im ****ed, i think it may be from my phosguard as i noticed a tad bit of it come out of my reactor. even after i rinsed it.


the frag you gave me murf, wich quadroopled in size might not make it =(

That sucks. Hope you dont have monti eating nudis. Im not familiar with Phosgaurd but are you running it with the recommended flow rate?

Look for monti eating nudibranchs also. They seem to eat the tissue from the bottom up. They are white, they look like fuzzy cotton like threads they're pretty small, and will eat all your monti's. They seem to go only for monti's at least to start with.

There is no cure, just manual removal and maybe removing all your montis if they get out of control.

You can search for pics, but don't rule that out especially if you've added any monti's in the last few months, they can have eggs with them and hatch eventually even if you didn't see them when you bought the colony.

From what I understand, only removing all of your montis and having your tank monti free for a few months will eradicate these things. Hope you dont have them.

Mitch gave us a long talk about these at the denver mini confrence last month.
He battled them at his 7,000 gallon aquarium. he thought he found a med. to kill them, did all kinds of experiments and in the end said that the only way to eradicate them is to throw out every monti you have. Which is very bad news, I know I will now look over montis very closely especially watching them the first week after purchase.

God I hope you don't have those, been there done that. IME they were more active at night, possibly becaue of all the wrasses in my tank. If you do have them you have two choices; 1, is to cut and run hopping they are isolated to the one colony. 2, If its all your colonies then you will have to pull them and scrub them with a tooth brush in a seperate bowl of water. At the time I was told the only thing that looks like it eats them is the Yellow Coris wrasse. After the fact I found out that the green Seagrass wrasse looks to be an even bigger fan of the taste of them.
A third option would be to frag your most prised Monti's, scrub them and keep them seperate to recolonise with.

well most of the purple rim monti is gone. some of the polyps that still exist are sucked totally in. i tried to shoo my mandarin away from it as a test...i didnt even get my hand all the way out and he was right back there snoopin

my yellow scroll coral had stringy stuff coming out, looks like the purple rim wsas touching a lilttle. could this be chem warfare?

yeah, all my montis died. white skeletons and thats it.

1st of april ill start an 8 month count down and test with a monti frag for a month at the end of said 8 month stint
