Monty growth

I have one Monty Cap growing over another one about 1.5 inches above it.
Question is- Will the one on the bottom die if the top one is blocking some of the light. Right now it's just covering an inch. Will it just have a light coloration where it's in the shade and the rest stay healthy or what?

In time my bottom layers of monti die as more layers grow on top of them.Thats how reefs are built.

Sometimes a little competition can be a good thing. I might be a wee bit more concerned if the lower cap was a higher end coral being shielded by a common one. Nevertheless, plating montipora need lots of space in the first place, if thats true for you, I would think things would turn out fine so long as the bottom isn't a too terribly slow grow growing vr.
