Moon Light

I have 2 dual mooonlights on my T5 HO unit,, am I suppose to leave it on for the whole night ? current I only leave it on for about 3 hours and then turn it off at 9 PM. From 9PM to 6:45 AM the tank is completely dark.... so should I leave it on for the whole night or wat I'm currently doing is fine ?

I do the same as you, off at 11 pm, on at 6 am. I was leaving them on all night, but the corals directly under the lights never closed-up. I figured they could use a rest, so I put the moon lights on a timer. I know others leave them on all night, but I think all lights out for a few hours is best.

ok,,, and btw is it ok to use activated carbon in a reef tank ? does the carbon filter out all the calcium and essential elements that are useful to the reef tank ?

It's all about preference. Moon lights offer nothing to the tank except it looks good to the viewer. Having them go off when you go to bed is fine.

I know others like to mimic the monthly lunar cycle for more realistic conditions. Who knows that might help promote night time breeding???

Oh, Definitely use it, It doesn't remove calcium or essential elements.
