Moon lights on Aquacontroller

Let me get this straight. So if I'm running a DC4HD the last outlet will work like a lamp module and dim the bulb accordingly?

Thanks,
Jay

No, the DC4 or DC4HD does not have any dimming features. There is dimming functionality in the 8th outlet of the DC8. This is an officially unsupported and undocumented feature. When this outlet is dimmed some DC8s may have flicker. For this reason the quality was not acceptable to us so we chose not to support or document it.

So since I am using a DC4HD do I just plug the lamp module into the programed outlet on the DC4 and then the moonlight into it?

Thanks,
Jay

Yes, you can use the moon cycle simulation on the DC4 or DC4HD; it will simply turn on/off at the appropriate times, but no dimming.

Curt

What if I want dimming? My question was will the dimmer module work if powered thru one of the outlets on the DC4HD or do I have to run it thru the x10 interface?

Thanks,
Jay

If want dimming then you are going to need a control interface (IM513) and a lamp module (CM465). The lamp module and interface would plug directly into a outlet - not the dc4hd.

Curt

Crap. The X10s never work for me. That's why I bought the DCs to begin with. Why don't you make a direct connect moon/lamp module? I'm sure they would sell.

Jay

Jay, there is no fear or reason you can't use the X-10 interface to control the lamp module for your moonlights. It's not a critical system. I use DC4's for everything crucial and use the X-10 interface to only control the lamp dimmer module.

Aquaduck,
What does the interface look like? How does it hook into the Aquacontroller? Is it hard wired to it or does it just plug into an house outlet?
The reason I ask is I have an interface unit that I got with the basic firecracker kit from X10. It looks like a module with an antenna on it. Is this what i need?

Thanks,
Jay
BTW I live in Burlington Ont.

The control interface looks like a control module, but instead of an output plug it has a RJ11 connector (telephone). A 4 conductor telephone connects between the AquaController or DCX and the control interface.
The interface you unit received with the firecracker doesn't sound like it will work.

rope lights really DIM

rope lights really DIM

Gosh these rope lights are really really dim. Also the moonlights are on mostly when my main lights are on. The moonlights are hooked up to the last outlet of the DC8 which has the dimming function. Any ideas?

The moon cycle simulation on the AquaController follows the true lunar cycle. So like the actual moon, it may be up (moon light on) during the day. Typically, new moons rise in the morning and set in the evening. The moon rises about 50 minutes later each day, and by the time it is a full moon, it is rising in the evening and setting in the morning.
If you want a night light simply program a light to turn on when the last light turns off, and off when the main lights go on.

switched from rope lights to 25w incandesant

switched from rope lights to 25w incandesant

ade the switch and I like it much better with the incandesant bulb. It's much dimmer than a LED computer bulb and dimmer than the tiny incandesant rope light that Aquaduck mentioned higher in this thread. I like it as it seems much more natural looking and does not overpower the tank like the computer LEDS.

Is this the bulb you are using? LINK

I found the 25W lights too bright for my tank (90Gal) so I used a string of rope lights cut down to 48". I think it worked out to 7W of light.

Glad it's working well for you.

I am using the 25w blue test tube bulb one can get at any fish store. Works like a charm and I get the glitter lines:)

Full moon soon:)

Full moon soon:)

Looks like the full moon is out! The light looks great! I can compare this 25w incandesant aquarium bulb vs. rope lights vs. computer LED lights. I like the 25w bulb better. Gives me the glitter lines and is dimmable by the AC.

Hi,
IÃ"šÃ‚´m sorry to make such a fool question but I just received my AQII and I want to make the moon cycle but canÃ"šÃ‚´t find the command "MOON" on the "add program" menu.
There is only "MON", so IÃ"šÃ‚´m not sure if this is what it is supposed to be.
In the instructions it says the program should be:

If MOON 000/000
Then MON* ON

But I canÃ"šÃ‚´t find the MOON command, just MON. And I canÃ"šÃ‚´t find the "*".
Can anyone please explain me how to make the program to run the moon cycle?
BTW, I do have the lamp module.
Thanks
Marco
