how is the moonlight supposed to work? from the time i have had this thing, i have yet to see the moonlight come on. i have checked immediately after lights go off, before they come on, and in the middle of the night, and i have yet to see the moonlight actually on. yes, the green led next to the word "moonlight" on the controller is lit

Sounds like it could actually be a bad moonlight. But do you check the moonlight when the lights in the tank and possibly need the lights in the room are off. The led will not come on unless it detects the lights are out

the tank is in the basement so it is pitch black when I check. No lights in the tank or in the room. Any idea as to whether this is a easy fix or if the whole controller just needs replacing ?

It is not usually a DIY fix, but it is an easy fix. If you send it in we replace the photocell/LED assembly it is soldered to the circuit board by four wires. Usually this repair has a 24hr turnaround.
