moonlights

Had one of these on my 29g tank. It was decent when brand new, but a major flaw in the design (IMHO) is that you plug the AC adapter directly into the light. Mine ended up failing because of water / salt getting in that connector and shorting it out.

I have this systems now:

As you can see, they've hardwired a pigtail on the end of the light so the whole light itself is sealed. This allows you to make the power connection away from the water, if you so desire.

I can't say for certain, but I BELIEVE the LEDs from Fishbowl Innovations are brighter than those from R2. I have the whole controller system, so I can either turn the brightness up and down, or run it on the standard moon cycle (which is what I do).

You can either buy the system directly from Fishbowl Innovations, or better, buy it from them off of eBay, which is what I did (from the advice of another RC member). They list these as regular auctions on eBay, and you can buy them significantly cheaper than buying them direct from their website.

I actually just go the R2's and have them up over my 135. The look fantastic at night. I have them high up in my canopy far from the water because of the connection reason. But man they are purty to look at when I get home form work at 4 in the morning.

there's got to be a way to protect that connection...because that's a great price and the look is awesome...let me think on that.....looking at shopping cart...and....click. Purchase. Let's see what I can come up with....

Yeah the greens/yellows/oranges pop like crazy!!

Haha Kat, you remind me of myself. Oo0o0o0o, that looks nice. Ummm...MINE!

Mike... did you only need one set of the dual's on your 135? I want to get them and put them between my halides (because you put the idea in my head)

Yup, her link is exactly what I got. They cover the 6ft no problem. I also got the controller to control the brightness of them. It comes in handy because at full blast they are pretty bright. The will have great coverage from your hanging lights.

Kat paid me a visit last night and admired these moonlights enough to go home and order a pair. Some of the reviews on Marine Depot regarding these lights recommend using black electrician's tape over those connections. I think I'll try that to avoid the problem Jason had with his. These are just so affordable and the light is lovely. I just hooked mine up to the RKL and only time will tell whether I programmed it correctly.
