Moorish idol reef safe at all?

I plan on getting a moorish idol but at the same time, I'm scared that he'll pick at my red sea fan, blueberry sea fan and my dendros. (I don't think it'll pick at my clove polyps, kenya tree or flowerpot coral.) I've dealt with these fish before and I'm great when it comes to feeding them, but I"ve never had them in a mixed reef. Any opinions? Thinking of getting a small pair of them!

I suggest you look at the Moorish idol primer, there is a lot of good information there. My experience was it ate my zoas. All of them. Did not keep it with corals much after that, but it may develop a taste for other things. It was 3 months before it sampled my zoas, but then it wiped them out.

They can be a hit or miss, and there is really no real way of knowing if and what kind of coral they will go after. That being said I have had 3, one didn't touch anything. One of the current ones I have only seems to have a liking for leather corals, but fine around SPS and LPS. I have another but not sure yet about him as he is going into a joining tank. The reason he is not with the other one is that I tried to do a pair as well and even though the newer was was a lot smaller there was not way they would get a long even in my 300 gallon.

If you want a Idol you build the tank around it, not the other way around
