More new gear...

Since I'll be putting a manifold on my red tanks for the HOG doubles rig, I realized that I would no longer have the luxury of strapping on a single whenever I wanted, so yesterday I rectified that and bought a clear-candy blue AL80 for the Halcyon rig.

Yea yea I know, it's just another tank that will get all scratched up over time, but since our LDS doesn't sell anything but colored tanks, I figured I may as well have one that matched the Halcyon colors.

Since my wife once again has an "interest" in learning to dive (she's doing SNUBA in Key West and a discovery dive in the Caymans in March), I figured that I had damn well better have 2 complete rigs sitting and ready to dive, so that she doesn't back out on lessons again after the cruise, with the excuse of not having any gear. She'll inherit my fins and I'll switch to the Jets, then we'll have double of everything but a computer, and since I'm already looking at the Vytec anyway...???...??? :p

Quick question for you doubles-divers...

Is it possible or even feasible to mount a set of doubles on the Eclipse-30 wing pictured above..? The only reason that I ask is because I have a buddy that is wanting to do Cavern/Intro Cave with me, but he isn't really keen on having to buy a complete new rig to do it. It it would be possible to mount doubles on this, then he could rent the cylinders ready to bolt on. If it's not possible, then he'll need to buy a wing too.

Good God, man!! Hahahahahaaaaa...

Looks like something you'd put in a scuba shop on display. :) You cornball. :D

I've got the stripping agent whenever you're ready... :)

Seriously though, do you think I should add a blue DIN plug to this, or is the black Delrin okay for the time being..? :D :D :D

You do realize that I was KIDDING don't you..? Seriously though, the only choices for tanks we have within a 100 miles radius is red, blue, green, yelllow, occassionally black... I certainly could have special ordered a bare tank, but it would have cost more in freight, so why bother..? I'll dive this untill it gets good and scratched up at which time I'll strip them all down via your method.

I totally need to get out and get wet, but now we have a blizzard that's gonna swoop in on us this evening and bury us under A LOT of snow and ice. :(

Fully aware, and in fact the harness for my doubles rig just showed up from those guys a few minutes ago.

The thing is, my LDS takes good care of me and allows me to run an open tab, so I kinda like to show them the $upport when I can, especially when the cost is the same. Besides, you'll soon be seeing my red doubles tanks featured in Edge-Hog advertisements, and that wouldn't have happened if I only had plain tanks. ;)

Wait till you see the neoprene propeller that I'm having custom made by Otterbay Wetsuits for my hoods! :D

-Tim

Hahahahhhaaaaaa!!! :)

I'm all about "supporting the LDS" - you know that. :) But if they don't have what you want...

...Which is revealing, really. :) You really DO want colored tanks! :)

They sure are pretty. :) You should see the ones I just polished up, though... Man, they're pretty! :)

Certainly they are beautiful until the scratches kick in...

Tell ya what, I'll come over to your house and let you strip them all down right after you remove all the pink from Kym's rig, and she removes her foot from your a**! :lol2:

-Tim

Hahahahahaaaa!!!

I'm not against the pink on her rig - I actually quite like it. What I don't like are the hose protectors ("protecting" what?) and webbing that fades terribly and looks awful. I have offered to have her webbing replaced dozens of times with the thick, soft, colorfast, black "Mil-Spec" stuff that I use, and offered to have her backplate Line-X'd hot pink... Which should stay colorfast for a long time and look great. :) No dice, as you know. :)

Tanks can look great even AFTER they're scratched... Provided that you strip them and hit them with a buffer (only takes a few minutes) every hundred dives or so. They look shiny and beautiful in the same way that a car's unpainted aluminum wheels look shiny and beautiful after they've been washed and polished.

Any coating of any kind - clear, paint, anodizing, gel-coat... It all comes off eventually, but not until after it's pitted your tank. Hopefully, though, you won't wait that long to strip them. :)

BTW: Chris says that my plate & #38 doubles wing is being shipped today, so I'm f'n stoked... Wait, since I'll be mounting to RED TANKS, maybe I should have said STROKED! :D

I'm also seriously contemplating swapping out the plates and using the Halcyon plate with the Cinch system on the doubles, so it's easier to get in and out of in the water... Your thoughts..?

-Tim

I'm not totally familiar with the Cinch system (I've not seen it in person), but it should be pretty interchangable with either the Halcyon plate or the HOG plate. There will be some differences between the two (Halcyon's plates are usually polished and have the bottom "tips" bent a little - but I've never seen it as an advantage or disadvantage), but for the most part, most of the holes and such should line up perfectly.

If it were me, I'd thread the webbing through the plate, adjust it perfectly, and forget about it. Putting any sort of other system in there complicates things unnecessarily, IMHO.

I just don't see a problem that needs the solution of the Infinity or "Cinch" systems.

From there, I'd hang both plates on a BC hanger, hang up both wings, and call it as I see it. You seem to want to call one setup your "doubles" setup and the other setup your "singles" setup, but there's no difference between the two - and either can be used for either. The wings are specific, but otherwise everything's totally interchangable.

...Which tells me that you'll end up using your favorite wing with whichever plate you like best, either coupled with the Cinch system or not... Then you'll put the right wing and tank(s) on and go diving. :)

I don't think you'll end up calling one "doubles" and one "singles." :)

I also think that you'll end up diving doubles all the time from here on. I doubt you'll even bother with singles unless you're really sensitive to the weight while topside, which you said you might be. :)

...And I still think you're gonna ditch the pads, too... But I think you'll play with them a while first. :)

I don't think you'll end up calling one "doubles" and one "singles." :)
Oh, but you're wrong...

You see, the red tanks go with the doubles which has the red HOG logo, and the blue tank goes with the........ :D :D :D

Ya know, I never actually realized that Cranberry Juice and Coconut Rum could actually taste so good together, but I didn't have enough pineapple juice or vodka left to make either of the more normal drinks, so here I am getting trashed on a new concoction, while waiting for the blizzard and screwing with you! :spin1:

Love ya man!

Too cool! My poison is Barefoot Cabernet... A Charlestonian special! :)

Is that weather going to hit us?

You won't believe what's on TV... Think back to the '80's... A movie called "Mannequin." Daggome, it's funny to see what we used to think was cool. :)

This is actually "Mannequin 2," and in it there's three "thugs" dressed in day-glow spandex, neon pink fanny packs, Otomix shoes and tank tops. And yeah, they're supposed to be the "tough guys." Funny.

Each of them has the "swirl" haircut that looks like a wave breaking at the beach - and a string-thin headband that matches the color of their fanny packs. Maybe they're more "Flashdance" than "thug." :D

Lol...

The "hero" makes it with a mannequin (last time I tried that, I got arrested) while the token black *** guy (isn't that Clarence Clemons, Bruce Springsteen's sax player?) cheers him on in a feminine voice

Heh. :)

'Nother bottle of Barefoot, please. :) Is that weather going to hit us down here? It was like 65* and sunny today...

Take a look at the national map to see how huge this monster is... I think we're all gonna get hemmered by this one. It stretches from western Arkansas to well inside central Colorado at the moment, and encompasses about 7 states at this point! :eek2:

Yes, my generator is ready with 10g in cans and 2 vehicles gassed up and ready to donate if necessary.

I was actually on a business trip to Philadelphia the day that the shooting of the sign scene was taking place... Driving through town, we saw all kinds of flashing lights and baracades, then saw a huge sign dangling from the side of a building and figured some bad juju was happening. After I saw the movie, it confirmed my initial suspicions! :D

Looks like we might get a little rain out of it, but that's about it.

Frankly, with the direction of the wind, I think we'd be hard pressed to even get that. :)

I'm already thinking about the 2010 "season," though. Can't wait for this winter to be over... :D

It's stalled over us and we' got a lot of ice over the last 12 hours. It's now turned to snow, and we're expected to get up to a foot of it over the next 24 hours.
