More peppermint shrimp success

I bought a 30g rimless set up from someone that came with everything including rock and sand. When I first saw the tank the lights were on night mode and I didn't see how much aptasia was in there. He did tell me there was some but there was a LOT.

So I decided after I had already done the aquascaping that I would give some peppermints another shot.

This time I purchased four of them from saltwater fish.com (along with a gold nugget maroon to save on shipping :-)

Within 2 weeks they have completely cleared every last aptasia. I haven't fed them at all until yesterday. There were well over 50 and a lot of largish ones around the size of a nickel

I have no corals in the tank yet so I am concerned they may start on my frogspawn when I move it in (although they have showed no interest in the torch that came with the tank).

If they do I might be giving them away to someone who needs to put these guys to work.

Just thought I would share my experience as there is a lot of doubt around these guys and I have had nothing but good luck with them

mine never bothered hammer/torch/spawn but they did go after acans and other items, especially when I fed the coral they would steal it from them. I wish they could take care of my aptasia, but I have only 1 and it is HUGE.

I have had lots of pepermints over the years and not one has ever bothered a coral. Yes they will steal food from corals you try to feed but only some of it.

I have two and neither bother my torch or frogspawn unless there's food in them. They steal food from the duncans, though. They will also jump onto a hand that's holding food. When I feed my coral, I squirt water at the shrimp with the turkey baster to keep them at bay while the corals eat.
