More sump questions, woo!

Ok, so I finally got my tank drilled today. Unfortunatley, the guy that marked the holes did one higher than the other, so modifications had to be made. Everythings good now though. Just have to buy something I don't recall the name right now, that makes a 1" bulkhead smaller.

I have a mag 5, and I also have to buy a clear tubing to put on it.
I was amazed at how quiet the mag 5 is, wow.

Ok my only last issue for this sump, is the baffles.

1.) Where can I get glass sheets, and who can cut em? Will home depot be the answer?

2.) Is krylon fusion reef safe? Can it be used inside of the tank? (I have to paint an elbow black)

3.) What type of sylicone do I have to use to glue the baffles?

4.) Where should I put the baffles? (10g sump)

5.) How high should the water level be for the sump?

Sump will be....

hob carbon filter, heater, return to sump
| mag 5 | Refugium | maybe a hob skimmer

6.) What can I use as a filter sock? Is it needed? The LFS Told me I would be needing a filter sock to avoid micro bubbles. Can I use something else for this?

The holes were marked so bad, that they charged me nothing for it :)

Thanks

check on this thread --they were just talking about this issue and there are a few blueprints of sump sizes

Thanks capn!

Those are really good examples on refugiums. Now one part of the sump is clear.. still missing the other parts lol...

mainly, is krylon fusion reef safe? Can I paint an elbow with krylon and put it inside of the tank?

ive painted my elbow with krylion...its not a reef...yet...ive read online that it is...some said it wasnt. i took a chance.

home depot will sell...in the SILICONE section AQUARIUM silicone...it will say right on it...i was so surprised.

i made my baffles out of thinner plexy...this made them bow...they work but are bowed.

ive cut glass once...when i was 12...we had the house redone in romania where i lived at the time and the work crew let me cut some glass and taught me how...probably had that amazed stupid face on i always make when i see somehting interesting.

you need a straight edge and a glass diamond...pretty much scratch...and snap the glass...kinda like cutting ceramic tiles(they taught me that too)

Yes, I did it with my return and my overflow guard. It's like a week of cure time though.

You'll pay more for the "Aquarium" name on it, and it is a smaller tube.

"GE Silicone I Window and Door" is what I use.

walmart sells the silicone in the fish section for cheap and home depot or lowes will cut the glass for the baffles just give them the measurement and they cut for free just pay for the glass thats already precut and have them cut it smaller

Thanks for the pics and info everyone.

I still don't understand the baffles though.
How am I supposed to place them, like how much space in between them, and why do some of them have to be higher than the other?

Do you have a sketch of the layout you are considering yet?

A quick answer to the space question regarding the bubble trap (3 baffles in a row). They need to be spaced 1" apart from each other. The center one needs to be raised to allow the water to flow underneath it. This allows the water to flow under the baffle while screening out the bubbles which will stay at the surface and be blocked by the baffle which extends out of the water.
