My friend at the LFS just got a healthy Idol traded in that has been in a reef tank for over a year. He looks fat and perfect but I'm a little worried about the fish nipping my sps/lps.

Well from what i have seen they are reef safe but they will east your sponges. i havent seen anyone post about an idol eating sp.

they are grazers also so they will eat mostly algae.

but sponge is a very big part of the diet.

do a search there is a huge idol thread with more specific information

Mine took out Zoos, Brains, many softies and it was just a matter of days before I realized it was the MI....... I think SPS you would be fine but any shrimps & crabs could be potential meals....

Check out the MI thread there are quite a few people with them in reefs and they are model except for the sponges.

as with all fish its fish by fish but i havent heard anyone else complaining about them eating all the corals and what not.

plus they are people with them so they can give you first hand on what they see and dont see

softies are not safe with these guys, but many people out there keep them in SPS tanks with no problem of them attacking their corals
