I really wanted to see a stoney coral reef. We are always going to the caribbean which are very beautiful, but I long to see all those colorful stoney coral in the wild. The problem is I have about a $2500 budget for a vacation this summer. We were planning on driving to florida and doing some snorkeling in the keys, however I wonder if their is a place on the pacific side of mexico, central america that has cheap flights out of michigan to these locales and or doable vacations close to my budget. Hawaii unfortunately is totally out. The cheapest flights for the last week in June were $1000+ for 1.

I stayed at 3 different places. I shared a room with my girlfriend and it cost us each about $2500. We first stayed at cabilao, then alona beach then dumaguette. you can find my pictures a few threads down.
I used sea-explorers and would definetly recommend them and do it again. look them up.
after a little research if you decide to do it I can help you plan out more details.

for 2500 you could pretty much go anywhere in the south pacific for a while. mind you your flight will be the majority of the trip.

I found philippines to be the most economical. do you have other suggestions for my next trip? i heard malaysia was nice. problem is many are unsafe.

For two people?

The cheapest I could find for Hawaii for the last week in June Sunday to Sunday was $2948 for a resort style hotel and flight.

Where did you go in the South Pacific? Have you been to the Caribbean? How does it compare?

caribbean is not even close. i went back after i went to the philippines and was bored with it. so much greater diversity in south pacific.

Hey Red Devil,
I went to Bora Bora, and a small island call Manihi which is part of Tahiti in the south pacific. I spend also week in each place. The water was so warm and the fishes was totaly out of this world. I have never been in Caribbean but it better than hawaii for sure. The water has diffrent shade of blue and also very clam water great for snoreking. I had sun burns on my back and legs because i was out there almost everday. I didn't even have to set out of the hotel. It's like having a reef in the backyard! Wonderful just wonderful!
