Most sought after SPS?

I've got something here, that the folks might want to see.Not sure about posting the pic, could use some help here.If someone could see their email address, and post for me.It looks like a Bali it's pink with glowing purple tips, with reddish polyps. Also puts out a purple rim around it's base.It surely is a real looker.
Thanks
Curt

Pretty sure the purple monster will always be the most sought after. It grows far too slow and simply cannot be imitated. You can always spot a real purple monster.

Alot of these new 'designer' corals out there, especially the zoanthids, have been around since the dawn of reefing. Just because someone slapped a designer name on them, doesn't make them any more rare or valuable. For instance, I can flat out state that I have owned 'almost' every single designer Zoanthid on the market right now. 5 years ago I had a hard time selling 'keds reds' or 'safecrakers' or 'alien eyes' for $10 a frag of 20 polyps. Back then it was all about Pinks and Blues. Now pinks are a dime a dozen, and blues are getting that way too. Easily imitated, easily forgotten.

The lemonaid will be no different soon. It grows fast, and already I've seen several coming out of fiji that are very close to it in color. Will only be a matter of time before the collects are target pruning to get those exact matches.

Hey Eric
You think you can send me your email address. And do a favor for me as posting this coral I got here.If you think it's worth posting, that's cool. But at least take a look?

I love my PM, too, but it's not exactly hard to get anymore. You can always find someone selling a true PM. The Pink Lemonade is the 'flavor of the year', at the moment, but it's not a fast grower.

The one piece I hear that's even slower than the PM, is Tyree's latest echinata. Not sure how they ID'd it as an echinata, but it's got a nice baby blue color to it.

I see the Purple Monster has been mentioned here a few times. So what gives here.Right now I'm selling a frag package with the PM included,on the selling forum.Yet I've had "nobody" as for looking to aquire this coral. It wasn't that long ago,it was demanding a huge price. But the PM maybe has has lost all of it's luster?

Not really, PM has always been one of those gambling frags. "Do I really want to gamble $100 on this 1/2" frag?" Its one of those frags that is considered a risk as a 1/2" frag most of the time. I've seen some people drop $80 on a 1/4" frag only to see it die off within a couple weeks. Not saying that it happens frequently, but there is always that risk factor. $80 will get you some really nice frags at most swaps.

Thanks Unarce
This coral was grown as a frag. It's been in my tank over 6 months now.And it's retained this true color. It's no new coral that's just been added here. The tips will get more intensed under 20,000 K bulbs. This photo's was taken under 14,000 K Aqua connects.

It seems that consistently for the past 2-3 years, the true thin-branched A. echinata has been the most inquired and sought after piece.

Hell, it was so desired, that the echinata tag was being stuck on anything bottlebrushed last year. I wouldn't be surprised if less than 5% of the echinata pics posted here were actually the real thing.

I agree completely. The misidentified corals are such an issue that most people don't recognize the actual Echinata when they see it. A friend of mine collected a few small colonies on a collecting trip to Fiji. He gave one to me and I have tried to trade frags to other people only to be told that it doesn't look like "Enchinada" to me...Funny thing is, even the spelling error of a few online vendors has been duplicated over and over, not just the ID. I bet you can find 2 or 3 vendors right now with an A Gomezi or some similar labeled "Enchinada":D

As for this thread, I agree that I prefer to see large healthy colonies to small 1/2" frags. I trade and sell frags all the itme, and people never cease to amaze me with what they want. It is easier for me to sell a 3/4" frag of a "popular" montipora for $75 than to sell a 5 or 6 inch colony sized frag of green slimerFOR $35! Much of this has to do with not only what, but who is doing the selling. I have had frags of pink lemonade that I couldn't get $100 for. (NOTE - PLEASE DO NOT PM ME. I DO NOT HAVE ANY PINK LEMONADE NOW*****)
Anyway, whatever the next "hot" item is, you can be sure it will be something in short supply, highly overpriced, and probably pretty cool looking.

BTW, Reeflections, could that possibly be A Plana or A Desalwii?? There are some similarities. Regardless, a very nice coral!

 Eventually, vendors will be selling frags of an 'A. enchilada', and this next hottest coral will be dubbed the 'Ortega Acro'.

You heard it here first:p

I have the "jesus" enchinita that is on exoticreefs.us. It is a great coral, and it is the only true enchinita that I have seen in Colorado.

I cannot wait to see the Lemonade coral go down in price. Heck, I remember when the green slimer was sought after, and was expensive as well. In any case, I hope that my Blue monster will command a huge demand in the future!

I had no idea John distributed the Jesus echinata. I thought ER only had the Real Deal echinata.

What is the one sps coral that is a must have. It used to be the superman danae, and then the purple monster. What do you think the one is now, or will be soon?

Right now, I'd say the Pink Lemondae is the hottest acro. The Superman fell off for a little bit because of the similar looking imports, but they haven't been able to produce the same intensity or hue of red that the "original" Superman did.

Nationally hot:

The Superman grows pretty quick, but the demand is super high. Probably always will be because most owners want to grow it out and montibranchs are taking their share.

Blue SPS have kinda fallen off the wayside a little, but the Oregon tort is still in high demand. This is due to it's intense color and super slow growth.

CA Hot, soon to be Nationally hot:

The Blue Matrix is in demand in California, but it will spread soon. ROAB (original owner) has universally accepted good taste, and this was one of jhis signature corals. It's a new LE.

Jesus's weird echinata is neat coral (Tyree's sight makes it look nasty. It's structure and color are phenomenal. It's a new LE also.

I think the Atlantis Tarheel acro will catch on soon. That thing is true baby blue and has held it's color. You have to see it in person to believe it.

Another coral that will probably get really popular is Fragfarmer's Montipora setosa. It's a branching and plating montipora. It doesn't look like much on his site, but the mother colony is an intense, glowing salmon pink, and the polyps are widely spaced like a suharsonoi. It is one of the few corals I bought on the spot, and I seldom do that these days.

I didn't care much for this piece at first, but when I first saw a colony in person, I was blown away. The branches are THICK!

I love this piece, too. I always wondered why Tyree's only has the baby blue. I like how Jesus' has the two-tone purple and blue.

You know most of these "sought after" corals don't look like much when seen as a frag, but when you see the mother colony, it's "Oh Baby!"

When Eric (Fragfarmer) brought his setosa to the CFM, I said great color and polyp structure, but I've seen better. Then I saw the mother colony. That's what it looks like? Wow, sign me up.

I saw snipersps's lemonade over at his house. It looks great as a full sized colony also. I'm not interested in it enough to buy a frag though. I know his handle is snipersps, but he should be sniperlps. His LPS collection blew me away.

Oh yeah, I think LPS corals are the real hot ticket right now, especially those non-photosynthetic ones like Dendros. You mean I have to spot feed it? No thanks. :D

Had to pick that one up at the BACFM myself :D

I can't get into the LPS thing, but I think it's great that people that aren't able to care for SPS, can still get into collectible stuff through the LPS route.
I haven't bought into LPS rare, though. The stuff just grows too fast and propogates too readily. Some of it might be filtering in slowly from wholesalers, but just find yourself a source that brings them in from Hong Kong, and you'll be swimming in all those so called rare pieces:lol:
