Most underrated Tang?

I think there are 70+ in the species with only a hand-full garnering most of the attention but there are some less popular gems that I think deserve a little more respect. I'll start it out with the Kole Tang. Not exactly uncommon in the trade but non-the-less a less popular fish compared to the other species in the Tang family. My adult Kole has some remarkable markings and a deep rich blue/purple color with bright yellow markings around the eye and body. It is not very aggressive and to me it is more efficient a herbivore than any of the more popular Zebrasomas. What's your underrated tang?

Lieutenant Tang (A. Tenneti)

IMO, very beautiful and subtle colors on an uncommonly seen, but not really rare tang.

Orange shoulder tangs in my opinion. I've really started paying attention to this tang over the past few months and I love them. A two tone base with a bright orange stripe on its side is beautiful.

They may not be underrated, but dussu's are another favorite of mine. Coloration is incredible.

Powder browns around my parts are overlooked often... And if you've seen one colored and happy it's one of the best looking fish too...

It's kind of rare to see,
It's often overlooked as it's not yellow, purple or blue ;)
It's really spectacular when happy and colored

so it get's my vote

Another Tennenti fan here, not only for colors(They usually look very drab when stressed in LFS tanks) but also in personality, very similar to a naso, and great for algae control.

naso tang not the blonde one never had one of those.i do have the i guess you would call it regular??it's a very cool fish had it about 6yrs.like a dog in water very friendly.

Another fan of the Tennenti. It's very good looking and would stand out from the other fish in any tank. Also, it's fairly cheap for a rare tang.

I think Two Spot Tangs are underated. They are good grazers and not as hyper as some tangs. Fairly pretty too. This is not a great picture but shows mine fairly well. When she opens her fins and puffs-up to show she is the queen of the tank, she is beautiful.

Agree tenetti tang and lavender and powder brown way overlooked because when they are fat and colored up they are a beautiful fish. fowleri and maculiceps and dussemier aren't overlooked just pricey compared to these. I think the white spine is underrated

I was going to say orange shoulder also. I saw mature ones snorkling in Hawaii. Wow. That two tone olive green with the orange mark is so pretty. They get huge!!!

My favorite not under rated tang is the Achilles.

I'll go with lieutenant tang as well... I've wanted one for years and finally have one, they are a great fish that you rarely see in aquariums, at least compared to the more popular yellow tang or "dori" that everyone wants.

Mine is a model citizen too... it's the biggest tang in the tank but the mildest. It doesnt fight with anyone unless they ask for it, then he quickly settles down when the other tang backs off.

I will go with Tomini tang, very underrated fish, but grazes a lot ,disease resistant and when properly feed the orange on his fins looks like flames contrasting its brown body.

+1 on Tomini. They are one of the smaller tangs also, which is a plus. My Tomini has always been a model citizen too.
