Motorized Light rack

I'm looking for a build thread, I saw, that detailed a motorized light rack. The rack was raised on 4 steel cables using pullies and a motor. Anyone know which thread it was?

Thanks

Hey...that sounds like mine.

Details are on pg. 10

It will kill me to see you build with the same design because it is easy to see that your flair for perfection will make mine look pretty ghetto! Aluminum would probably be a better choice than the 1"x1" wood I used. However, this was clearly one of the better ideas that I had. It has performed flawlessly for 2 years and I raise/lower the lights almost daily.

The track actuator is from firgelli automations in Seattle.

The actuator I used has a vertical lift of 30" and came prewired with up/down buttons. I still have some fantasy about connecting the actuator to my controller and moving the lights up/down to simulate morning/noon/evening intensity...but I never did it.

I hope helps!

I knew it was someone I had talked to before! Darn, obviously having one of my senior moments. :D I do, however, remember how impressed I was with your design and execution. Actually I was going to suggest your lift to a fellow member in the local reef club - but - the more I peruse your thread the more I think it would improve my fish room. Didn't you once warn me that I might have trouble accessing my tank if I used my rack slides?

I am fortunate enough to have 8 foot ceiling height. If there is no room to work under the lights, then there isn't much benefit to this.

If you only have roll back - without vertical movement, make sure they can roll back so far that you can actually get up in between the lights and the tank (the lights would end up behind you while you are working). Then, all you need is to install some lights up in the ceiling so you can see what you are doing.

I would love to see somebody else use my design. I'm quite proud of it!
