Mount LeConte

Steph and I hiked to Rainbow Falls and Mount LeConte yesterday. We did 14 miles w/4000' elevation gain in 6 hours round trip (including an hour break on the summit). This was her first "real test" and I'm super proud of her.

Awesome!!! Steph doesn't even look mad at you in the picture... She must have enjoyed herself... :D

Yeah, she seemed to have. Our knees were killing us on the way down... We actually ran the last two miles or so - paradoxically, it hurts less to jog than walk downhill... more forward motion?

Totally unrelated, but we saw the Pixar film "Up" last night as a reward... reminded me of hiking in that region of Venezuela...

Thanks Eddie.

That trip in Venezuela was the first (and only, lol) time I've eaten live insects.

(for scale, that waterfall, Kukenan Falls, is like 2,000' tall)

smile when you ride a bike and you'll eat more :rollface:I once had a giant grasshopper fly in my mouth and latch onto my tongue I litterly had to rip it off

Unintentional insectivorism doesn't count. :)
Seriously though, that's disturbing.

Ever thought you were about to chomp a 1" Warrior termite?...
but the crafty bugger crawled across your tongue?...
and your back molar had to take care of business?
Yeah, that wasn't as 'cool' as I thought it would be.
hah!

I'd love to go hiking. I've only gone one time.
Once? that's just terrible! Definitely check out House Mountain. It's like 20 minutes from downtown Knoxville, is a pretty short hike, and the view from the top is outstanding (take the left fork for the shortest route to the top). Good sunset hike too.

House MTN is nice... I've been up there, and it isn't too far... I still need to take Ashley up there... I'd take you too Melly, but you work weekends... ;)
