Mounting frags on side?

I have heard of people mounting frags (especially acropora) on one side, does anyone know the pros & cons of doing this?

i put my millie on crevice so its horizontal, and its growing all funky, i like it here's a picture.

so far i have had alot of luck using this method. instead of one branch growing up and later splitting. a frag glued on its side tends to encrust well and grow more trunks sooner.IMO.

I had heard that it looks better in the long run, over having a bunch of multicolor sticks

thats true, mine started to grow a bunch of branches so the sides. Also another plus i forgot to mention.

I lays down a greater base if you glue it on it's side to the rock

someone else was talking about this a month or so ago so i thought i would try a little experiment - results are awesome - just as everyone was saying a little slower start but encrusts like crazy then multible branches forming what will be a "colony" sooner then a stick

Paletta uses this method... Only down side it is a little more risky.
