Mounting frags to clam shell?

Hey all,

I have a 4in crocea clam that has been doing great for a whial. I thought I would be cool to mount a sps frag onto the shell in the hopes of the acro to encase the clam as you see in nature.

I am worried that I may harm the clam. LMK if it's a bad idea.

i say no. the clams use the side of their shells to survive. those in nature you see are probably a lot bigger then yours.

yeah there is a User around here that had an avatar like that. seemed like a cup coral was wrapped around it. I thought that was pretty neat.

yeah your funny:rolleyes:

i would say yes but one concern about mounting it on the shell is it will get to heavy for the clam to be able to close causing death, maybe you can mount the frags around the clam?

bencozzy, thats a great idea. I'll think i'll mount my green slimer frag by he clams

If it is harming the clam or somting I can just frag it.

folks,

believe it or not, I have an sps colony that I believe experienced a polyp-bailout, and guess where it landed and found a place called home? you've guessed it, right on the shell of my gold teardrop :) basically it propagated itself and eventually encrusted on the shell. its a p. damicornis, known for polyp bailouts and at first I thought it was some kind of a sponge since their polyps are really long and fuzzy and i poked at it but would go away till i realized it was a new and tiny sps colony. If interested, I can post the pic but my computer is currently down...all i can say is that its really cute!
