Hi!

I put my first two fish in last night and noticed this morning one has something white below it's lower lip. My LFS says it's a mouth fungus. What do you guys think? Please see pic!

My clown has the same thing but much worse, it's all around his mouth, looks like some tissue actually fell off and I can see his teeth, this morning he wasn't able to close it, I dosed the QT with paraguard this morning and when I got back from work tonight he was able to open and close his mouth, so that's a good sign.
Good luck.

Oh boy... no joke! GL too! 15 min after putting the remedy in the clown fish seemed more lively. Hopefully tomorrow morning he will be able to shut his mouth too. It is sad, but we are treating it!

what else are you doing?
I did a 20% water change this morning before dosing and plan on doing a 20% water change weekly, my salinity right now is 1.022, someone suggested hypo and dosing but I'm going to see how the rest of the week goes.

When diagnosing newly acquired clownfish, the first thing I always look for is Brooklynella. You can Google that and find a lot of info/pics for comparison. A lot of times a simple formalin bath will confirm or deny Brook; in the same manner a f/w dip can confirm gill flukes.

If you rule out Brook, all you are really left with is a bacterial (or in very rare cases fungal) infection. Best way to treat for that is to use a broad spectrum antibiotic in QT. Look for something like Furan-2, Kanaplex or Maracyn Plus at your LFS.

The medication I got is a 48hr process. Tomorrow I will do a 20% water change.

The medication has helped, and got rid of most of the white stuff. Now there is a red mark... not sure what that could be. Are you seeing the same? I tried to take a pic but it is rather difficult.

Thanks! It doesnt seem to be Brook for my case.

I would keep an eye on it, if it's an infection it will take awhile for it to heal.

Sadly for me, my clown died, but the other one is doing fantastic. We've come to the conclusion that the dominant clown attacked the other one while they were bagged up on the way home, which is probably why I didn't notice anything that dramatic on its face. I'm just keeping it under observation while my tank cycles.

Good luck & speedy recovery!

Aww thats a bummer! Sorry to hear.

Best of luck!

Best advice I can give is to take it to a good lfs and they can help better since they will be able to actually get a good look at it
