Movin' on up

I purchased a jbj45 rimless and it has been cycling for 4 weeks now. As I get closer to moving into it I'm getting more and more nervous since I have never done this before. My question is when I get ready to move over should i be taking ALL my water from my smaller tank to the new one, or just the rock and livestock? My plan was to empty enough water in the new tank to fit all my live rock and top it off with the water from my current setup. Is there a better method of transferring tanks?

yea, you shouldn't have any issues. obviously monitor your levels very closely in the first week and i would make up a lot of new SW just incase you do have a spike you can do water changes to safely bring the levels down

You want to transfer as much water from the old tank to the new as possible to minimize the shock of new water chemistry on the livestock, but when it starts to get cloudy with detritus stop transferring water. Try to match the salinity, temperature, alkalinity and pH as close to the old tank as possible before you start the transfer process.

I've moved my tank several times. Agree with the other comments. My only suggestion would be to take all the water out that you want to move BEFORE you move any of your rock. Otherwise you will have grody water. This also allows you to use whatever you leave behind to swish all the collected detritus off the rocks as you move them.
