Ok I plan on moving my Fuge with a 5 inch DSB, My plan is to tip up one side of the fuge and slide a 3/4 inch peice of plywood (chip board) underneath it. questions... Would this crack the glass? does the DSB have tp remain intact to still be functional right away? is there an eisier way? can i just take the sand out and put it back after i move the tank?
 :( :hmm2: :sad2:

I once put my 55 show on the driveway to rinse with water. About 4 inch's of water, and a tiny pebble under the tank and CRACK. That's all she wrote. It takes little deformation to crack a piece of glass. Remove everything you possibly can before moving.

My guess is chip and sawdust board will flex too much. Your safest bet is probably to take the sand out first, but then you will have to rinse it like there's no tomorrow in case any sulfur deposits have built up over time. Hopefully someone has better advice. Maybe this is a good reason to switch to a series of RDSBs.

I guess that depends on the amount of fish you have and how often you feed. The assumption is that bacteria living in the live rock and bacteria living in your fuge's DSB are in some degree of equilibrium of competing for the nutrients. What is the equilibrium, that's tough to say. My best guess is that they share the load pretty evenly and thus it won't impact your tank much in the short run if you remove and start a new DSB in the fuge. Personally, I would just cut back on feeding substantially while introducing a new DSB, and then taper it up to whatever it used to be over the course of a month.
