moving 90 gallon aquarium...

okay guys, we are building a house and we have to move out of my current house, but we are wanting to set up the 90 gallon tank at my mom's business...

here is my plan...tips welcomed...

take canopy and all lighting directly to the business (which is like 2 miles away)

get rubbermaid containers and save as much water as I can, transport most of the water to the new business...
(possibly have fresh saltwater at the business (just in case something happens ))
my mom is getting some of her workers to help me (pretty strong guys) so I thought about putting some rocks in the containers (I only have like 55 pounds I think? I'm a little light on rocks)...

take out fish of course, (2 ocellaris, 1 ytang, 1 btang, 1 rgrama, 2 cleaner shrimp, i think that's all the fish, I have a yashia ray goby, but i've only seen him once since i bought him months ago, dunno if he's in there still or not)

leave enough water in there to keep the oolitic sand wet...

transport tank and stand...

set it all back up once i'm over there...put fish back in

(any tips on how not to cause a sandstorm?)

thanks guys

Noob

PS, is it okay if i put my clowns in the same bag?
or will they remember each other later if I move them separately?

The clowns will be fine in same or seperate bag. Sounds like a decent way to move everything. That tank will be HEAVY with sand and even a little bit of water in it! Better hope those guys have strong backs. Place a bowl or plate in the bottom of the tank and pour the water back in so it hits the dish to keep the sand in place.

have had a good amount of experiance with this sort of thing. Had to move my 75 twice now. Definatly have saltwater ready to go at the business.. I used the rubbermaid containers with sucess. Just make sure that you have a heater and something for water movement around your corals. If you have any i would put them in a seperat rubbermaid if you dont want them to be crushed by your rocks... The tank is going to be hella heavy. I think my back still hurts from when I moved mine in december.

oh and what about that heartbreaker the other night against Duke.. I almost cried... Huge Tarheel fan!!

Sounds like you have a pretty good plan.... If you are moving fish in bags you'll be fine. If you put some fish in buckets, be very careful about putting rocks in there with them. When the rocks shift, they may crush the fish. I have seen this happen.

Make sure you allow a good part of the day for the move. It took me about 12 hours to move two 40 gallon breeders pretty much by myself (but it sounds like you'll have help).

To minimize a sandstorm, put a plastic bag over your sand while you add water, or even a plate or bowl would work to dampen the blow of the water on the sand.

I also bought a small bottle of SeaChem prime in case there were any unexpected spikes.....just in case (along with premixed SW for a quick water change). I did not need it, but it is cheap insurance if the move goes late into the night when the LFS isn't open. On the other hand, I tend to over think things like this.

Most all, just take it slow and try not to rush..... Good luck!!

hey Junior...I had RISERS at that game!!!!

it was awesome...down by 17 points...to lead by 5...just to lose it....arghhh

thanks for the suggestions guys!
