moving a 1300 lbs. tank

Does anyone know of a good brand of suction cups to buy. I think I will need 8 people. I would like to use suction cups if possible.

I considered suction cups to move my tank (10x3x4- 1.25" thick acrylic = 1,100lbs+), but they were really expensive to purchase ($100+ each) and I couldn't find a place that rented them. I ended up using forearm forklift moving straps and dollies. Configuring the straps in an "X" under the dollies worked really well. If we had to set it down (and we did) we didn't risk one corner coming down faster than the others and smashing the corner on the ground. I had 12 average sized (180lbs) guys.

I think only 8 guys on 1,300 lbs might be pushing it (163lbs per person!). Might not seem like a lot, but try holding 160lbs dumbell for an extended period of time...your movers better be some strong dudes. Also, a lot depends on how complicated the move is. If you have to go through a narrow doorways and guys have to "peel off" to get through, you will definitely want more than 8. I would shoot for 14. I had to hire some help since I knew some of my so-called friends would flake on me.

If you still want to go with the cups, I found this site that has them (Jet JSM-910K) for sale: http://www.toolorbit.com/Jet/Jet-JSM-910K.html. Even if you only get 8, that's $840! Pretty steep for one time use. Unless you are going to start a tank moving business, I would just go with the forearm forklift moving straps (~$20 each at your local U-haul store) and dollies.

I would help if you were local. Good luck with the move!
