Moving a 55 to 75 w/ sump need advice

This weekend I move into my new home and will be replacing my 55g with a 75 I plan on making my own sump out of a 29g tank with a refugium in the center section. My fuge dimensions will be 11x12x10 is that large enough? Also I'm completely replacing the substrate from my 55, which is ls, to a Caribsea special grade seaflor. Because of this I'm wondering if it will be a good idea to make a DSB using the ls that I'm just going to throw away from my 55 in my fuge or if I should just invest in some miracle mud or the likes. Also how much of the water should I attempt to salvage from my 55 if any. I know the tank will cycle again so should I just make 100gallons of new water? What are your thoughts on using Walmart purified water as my source of fresh and then mixing some reef salt? Sorry for all these questions I'm just a bit overwhelmed at the moment with so much to do. Will my livestock survive this new cycle? I have a oc clown, coral beauty, watchmen gobi. Several snails as a CUC and a frag of hammer, Xenia, and acro. Thanks in advance for the help

My fuge dimensions will be 11x12x10 is that large enough?Yes that should be fine. Also I'm completely replacing the substrate from my 55, which is ls, to a Caribsea special grade seaflor. Because of this I'm wondering if it will be a good idea to make a DSB using the ls that I'm just going to throw away from my 55 in my fuge or if I should just invest in some miracle mud or the likes.I personally don't like sand in a fuge because it can trap detritus, if you add sand make sure to maintain it. Also how much of the water should I attempt to salvage from my 55 if any.75% would be a good idea 50% at least, as much as you can though without any nutrients from the old sand and rock I know the tank will cycle again so should I just make 100gallons of new water? really don't have to cycle depends on how you do it, add a little live sand to the new sand, cycling is from die off and bacteria's growing to filter naturally, you already have that What are your thoughts on using Walmart purified water as my source of fresh and then mixing some reef salt?not against it are you talking about a water machine or gallons for sale? Sorry for all these questions I'm just a bit overwhelmed at the moment with so much to do. Will my livestock survive this new cycle? read about transfers and you will have no problems I have a oc clown, coral beauty, watchmen gobi. Several snails as a CUC and a frag of hammer, Xenia, and acro. only thing that might challenge a little is the acro, other than that you have easy stuff. Thanks in advance for the help

Your Fuge size would be fine if that is all you have room for, I would go bigger if you can.

If you re-use the sand from the 55 I would rinse extra well with fresh saltwater, I've moved a large tank a couple of times and have gotten some pretty big algae blooms from not cleaning it. Or instead of throwing it away, you could just bake it in the sun and dry it out as well after rinsing it fresh water. I personally think miracle mud is a gimmick, that can be accoplished with more affordable fine sand.

Try to salvage as much of the old water as possible, but also have as much fresh saltwater mixed up as you can and ready to go.

Do you mean the bottled water off the shelf, or from the machine? The bottled water is better than getting it from the tap, IME, but really expensive. The water from the machine is unreliable in quality, and you never know when the filter is really been changed or not. It would be best to invest in a RO/DI system yourself.

Your corals are going to have a hard time surviving any cycle, if you were to use your old liverock it may not really cycle at all, but I understand your predicment of not using it.
If it were me, I would set-up a small 10-20 Galllon tankor even a rubbermaid bin with the old LR and a HOB powerfilter put all your livestock in it while you cycle your 75. Keep a close eye on water parameters and do water changes as needed with this tub. Lighting can be accomplished with a standard flourescent, the corals will lose color but can survive on that light alone.

Disregard my comment about your LR, I mixing two threads together and thought you where planning on getting rid of it.

When you say add my old live sand to my new substrate how much are we talking? I have 40lbs of old ls that will be left and am using 80lbs of caribsea in my new tank. Where do I add this new sand as well? Do I just sprinkle It in various areas?
