Moving Clam

I have a clam sitting on my rock that has attached itself really strong to the rock. My RBTA is growing and getting too close to the clam, I want to move the clam without tearing the foot of the clam, any secret I can do to prevent the tearing, what are the chances if I just leave it there and it has some contact with the RBTA?

If you use your hand and slowly rock the clam back and forth it should eventually let go of the rock. You must do this very gently and take your time so as to not tear the foot. As for your second question I do not know what will happen if contact between the two is made. IMO I would guess nothing and would think that if one was bothered by the other it would move to a safer spot.

I've done this before as well, and the rocking could take 15-20 minutes. Do NOT force it, and be patient.

Regarding leaving it there, I don't see that big of an issue with it. I've had a crocea clam that gets brushed by a euphyllia species, and it's been that way for months. No ill effects that I've seen, and I imagine the euphyllia is as potent as an RBTA.

Right now I am going to leave it, if it continue to show it mantle i will leave it if the mantle start to recede , I will move it. Thanks on the info to take your time in removing the clam.
