moving my tank

so I set my 30 Gal reef tank up 2 years ago and did not put enough thought into its placement. I now have direct sun on the tank about 2 hours a day and battling the the wife to keep the curtains closed on a nice sunny day is tough.

So if I want to move the tank whats the best safest way to go about it.

I would guess getting 90% of the water out and livestock in a temp tank I should be able to move the tank with the live rock and sand still in it.? Or am I underestimating the weight. I have a 2 ish inch sand base with 44 lbs of live rock.

any help would be great

i moved my 30 gal tank by myself. removed about 80% of the water. i had 60 lbs LS, and 50 lbs LR. i toke some of the bigger pieces of rock out and moved them to a bucket along with the livestock. and i just pushed the stand with tank on top to the new location. you could do this if its not to far away but if your going a good distance best get 2 people to pick up the tank and move it. less chance of messing up the stand. and ya its pretty heavy.

If you can move it on the stand and the stand can take the stress you'll be ok.

Problem comes in when you move just the tank. It's almost impossible to pick it up without flexing it. flexing it with the weight of the rock and sand might pop one of the silicone seals. I might be tempted to do it to a 30 like yours but will always empty a 75.

YMMV

yeah I am thinking I can take out some big rock chunks but leave the sand and base rock (that is settled into the sand bed) not sure how to get my gobie out. he is always in his hole. and my emerald crab I see once a month dont even know where he spends his time.
