Moving question

Gonna be moving my tank this weekend, i had originally planned on taking sunday to move the tank with buckets and bins. Unfortunately because of a hernia repair surgery a week ago i have to break up the move a bit.
My plan is to move the rock and fish to a 40g for a day with powerheads so i can have my friends move the tank and stand while they move the rest of my stuff that way i can set it all back up before bringing the rock and fish on sunday or possibly sat evening. My main concern with that is the sandbed. Do you think the sandbed would be ok with just a couple of air stones and a couple inches of water for 24 hrs or so. Its only a year and a half old so i dont really want to change it

If youre absolutely sure the sandbed wont be disturbed, It could be done. But even with a couple of inches lof water left to keep it alive, the sand will move and slush around unless youre super careful and have te tank moved in a horizontal position. Personally, I would get rid of the sand because it makes it much harder to move the tank and take the opportunity to go bare bottom. You'll loose inhabitants if the sandbed gets disturbed and sends your tank into a cycle.

The unwritten rule is to buy new live sand when moving tanks. It will save you tons of headaches. Just remember to take all the snails out of the sand as well as anything hiding in the old sand like wrasses or starfish.

Yup I would buy some live sand and replace just makes it easier. Tank will be a lot lighter and less stress on the seems of the tank

On June 17th I moved my corals / live rock into my new 180 started with new dry sand had no cycle things went very well. Did not move any sand! having said that as long as your sand stays wet it should be good.
