Moving Soon!

BAMs BAMs... I have a ton
Hey all -
I am moving soon! I want to keep both of my current tanks up and running in the new home.
The new house is only a 10-15 min drive from where I am currently.
I have a 34g RSM, up for about 10 months, and a 14g Biocube, up for about 4 months.
I have heard numerous tips and tricks on moving and I will have people helping as well.
I am just looking for some feed back from the forum peeps!

- I have heard that I would be unable to use the same sand that I currently have, TRUE?
-Keeping all of the LR submerged during transport, yes/no?

These are just some of the things that I need cleared up!

Thanks

Moving day is always a bummer. I have had to do it 2X. One was planned and the other was due to a flood in the upstars apt. If nothing else, this is a perfect time to upgrade tanks! If you plan on setting both of your current tanks back up and not taking my advice to upgrade NOW,
-Start mixing all new SW at the new place. enuff to fill both tanks incase of an "oops" matching salinity and temp to your current tanks water.
-Get all your livestock and corals out 1st and package them for there trip. Since this is just a short distance, I would transport them in 5g buckets. take these to the new place 1st and get a small powerhead + heater to keep things in check.
-remove as much water as you can into 5g buckets.
-remove all your Live Rock taking care to not disturb the sandbead as much as possible.
-use one of the 5g buckets of old SW water and swoosh your LR aound in it to get as mutch detrus/junk out of them as you can. put LR into a bin for transportation (cover with wet newspaper if things are going slow so it doesnt dry out) and disgard dirty water that was used.
- You can get away with keeping your sand. Just do not remove it and try to disturb it as little as possible. Many would recomend to replace it at this time, and that is fine to. Yours is really not that old so I wouldnt worry about it.
- Get the new/ old tanks moved and into place(get help to prevent "oops")
-Get your LR setup like you like it
-I went with a 25/75 mix of old to new SW when i did my moves.
-get your skimmer/filter floss/sock/heater/pump/powerheads or whatever going asap.
-wait for the water to visibly clear up
-re-check salinity/temp and it couldnt hurt to check the other stuff too like PH, 'trates& ammonia.
-if all is good, add livestock & corals

I would plan on a LONG FULL DAY to do all of this and the help of a buddy is key. Good luck and plese feel free to add/critique what was recomended. Worked for me transporting a 24g the 1st time and a mid move upgrade from a 60g acrylic that cracked between bulkheads to my current 72 bow.

rubbermaid tubs work great for moving. The lids are easily removable and 5g buckets will tip on you. I would keep the LR submerged. Die off occurs and can introduce Nitrates into that new water. Same with the sand. I would get new sand and add a cup or 2 of the old to help with new. This will give the new a kick start. The Amount of LR and the size of the LR have a lot to due with how quickly you put your stock back in your Tank. Take your Time and acclimate. A day may be pushing it even with a pal.

Also if you do use rubbermaid tubs check for punctures.
