Moving tank to second level, what to look for.

Hello all,

I am thinking about moving my 60g cube to the upstairs entertainment room. What to I need to look for? I believe my tank weighs somewhere in the 750lb range?

ive moved a 75 gallon on a 2nd floor and had no worries. this was in an office building but I would think youll be fine.

Shouldn't be an issue. Have you seen crews stack sheetrock on the second floor of new construction? Those piles alone outdo most anything a homeowner (assuming the homeowner isn't into fish) will ever place in their house.

At 60 gal I'd say you could place it wherever. Go bigger then I'd start looking at joist placement and load bearing walls. I know of a 178 upstairs in a 30 yr old house, a 300 upstairs in a 100+ yr old house (engineers involved on that one), and have personally placed a 150 on the 12th floor of a 75 yr old office building.

Dude, you're golden. Get three or four of your friend to stand together where you want the tank to go. Then have them jump up and down. If they end up downstairs then don't put it there. Also, sue your contractor. No worries with that one.

LOL

Shouldn't be a problem but if I am worried about load I always try to set the tank somewhere that its longest dimension is perpendicular to the way the floor joist run.
